Nokia N9 to miss on some major markets

30 June, 2011
The Nokia N9 certainly made a great first impression and a lot of people are eager to get their hands on it. That's why Nokia put up a webpage, that should help you find out when the device becomes available in your...

I think the whole N9 thing is genius by Nokia. To be honest, I don't think they really care how it does, but they're milking as much publicity as possible in the mean time, until the real deal, the WP7 phones arrive.

Overall, pretty clever, at least to highlight the hardware design direction and to also gauge public reaction.

Epstein, 01 Jul 2011No Philippines? No India? No Indonesia? I guess these count... moreI think people are definitely reading too much into that country list. Thailand is not on that list, but yet Thai developers are among the first group of people who receive the new N950 with the new MeeGo Harmattan OS. If Thailand will not be getting the new N9, why bother giving the Thai N950 to the developers? Think People!

5 out of 6 people in my office ditched nokia for android (3 galaxy S, 1 Moto Defy, 1 LG chic). All the operators in Italy push strong Android and at some level iOS. So the N9 and/or WP7 phones from nokia will be mostly irrelevant.
                RIP Nokia. Thank you Elop

MeeGo looks dead simple and intuitive - more so than iOS. I already feel I know how to use it just by watching some videos on YouTube.
WP7 should be a decent OS but to the thought that I should have a hotmail account and a dozen of Microsoft software installed on my laptop to take full advantage of my phone's features, I'm totally put off.

Why does this look like another attempt to kill the progress of Meego. I know that they might not want the Two models to be within a competition with each other but people need freedom of choice and Nokia have you guys ever thought that you might have and will have people who will buy both the WP7 and the Meego models. Come on you all need to Launch them at the same time. But never the less I see what the strategy is. But people still need the freedom of choice.

Far less nokia with it's huge customer base in developing countries. They liked nokia products because they were easy to use and worked well. Not exacatly a microsoft strong point. WP has only been good in niche markets. It destroyed the hole PDA market in the past. Elop is making decisions designed to eliminate nokia altogether in Decade. the sooner he is removed, the sooner Nokia's recovery begins. xman

Probably because the Average American Consumer (AAC) will find Meego too confusing, and will be lost when he can't find an app for every website he visits. He will also have no clue how to transfer files onto his phone without BloatTunes or its equivalent. The average Hungarian will have no such difficulties.

sam2k, 30 Jun 2011Nokia you are dead. I am an ardent Nokia fan. Even with all... moreWhat the hell are you smoking? MeeGo got no ecosystem to compete against Android and iOS. What Elop is doing here is making sure that MeeGo won't take off and he's getting that DOA OS out of the way by not selling it on key countries. Nokia will do well with WP. With MeeGo, no one even knows what it is aside from the fanboys.

Nokia's WPs will ship with Mango and if your basis of prejudice is the current state of WPs then you're making a huge mistake. WP is making a lot of improvements and it's adding more features faster than Android at its time.

Elop is the man who will turn Nokia around with WP and NOT with MeeGo. MeeGo is FAIL
                                    MeeGo is DOA

NOKIA must have their reasons not to include certain markets for N9, but if they're doing it to force customers to buy WP7 phones then that's simply arrogant and stupid. Windows Mobile has the worst reputation as a mobile OS and I would even choose iOS over it anytime.
