ah come on Xiaomi! Don't make the redmi 5 bigger. Yes i know.. it's 18:9 now. But still, i don't think they are gonna fit that 5,7" in the same body. And even if they manage to, my fingers aren't getting any bigger so i can't reach the top of the device anymore. They should have made a 5" 18:9 screen.

Anonymous person, 29 Nov 2017Still SD 625...??? HELL NOO..!!!Agreed, I would say the minimum today should be the QSD 636 (aka Qualcomm Snapdragon 636).

It's basically an underclocked QSD 660, with a cheaper price. The QSD 660 is mighty impressive, being equal (or slightly behind) the previous flagship which is the QSD 820. Which itself was just an underclocked QSD 821. And the QSD 821 and the QSD 835 were quite close in performance, which means by proxy, the mid-range QSD 636 is quite close to the performance of the high-end QSD 835.

I would expect any phone priced below US$150 or €100, to ship with some random MediaTek SoC, just nothing you can do about it at this bargain-base price. Whereas devices priced between US$150-US$250 or €100-€200, you should expect the old QSD 625 SoC, it will deliver everything you want except the performance. Then bumping up to US$250-US$450 or €200-€400, you should demand the QSD 636 (or equivalent) instead. Prices higher than that should net you the QSD 835. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Not only has the naming, features, and pricing has become awful to follow for Snapdragon chipsets lately. The entire upgrade path for SoC's on the Android ecosystem itself has become a nightmare.

Here's the upgrade history of the SoC's in the Android ecosystem:
    500Mhz ARM 11 > 500Mhz Cortex A8 > 1GHz Cortex A8 > 1GHz Dual A9 > 1.5GHz Dual A9 > 1.5GHz Dual Krait-200 > 1.5GHz Dual Krait-300 > 1.7GHz Quad Krait-300 > 2.2GHz Quad Krait-400 > 2.7GHz Quad Krait-450 > 2.1GHz Quad A57 > 2.4GHz Dual A72 > 2.4GHz Quad A73 > 2.6GHz Quad A75

Or if you want with the Q3 yearly cycle with Product Names of the SoC's:
    (2008) QSD S1 > (2009) TI OMAP 3430 > (2010) Exynos 3110 > (2011) Exynos 4210 > (Q1 2012) QSD 400 "S4 Dual" > (Q4 2012) QSD 600 "S4 Pro" > (2013) QSD 800 > (2014) QSD 805 > (2015) Exynos 7420 > (2016) Exynos 8890 > (2017) QSD 835 > (2018) ?

What a disappointment. Redmi Note series just lost all the magic. SD625, USB 2.0, HD+... Really?

Only way they sticking with 625 because is cheap chipset with efficiency and performance balance for budget devices is perfect, it is definitely unrealistic to expect 660 in budget device, they could go with 630, but I think performance wise is almost no difference between them

              SD625? Again?
This is more like a Redmi facelift ... besides that is same old Redmi 4.
Xiaomi used to be good value for money but now I think they are preparing us to go back to Samsung!

I hope they will keep it small as curent Redmi devices - 140 mm. But maybe we have to say good buy to cheap Redmi series. Obviously they've built a stron fan community and will start exploiting the Apple and Samsung models - people are ready to pay more and more for any shit they spoil.

I've heard it's a plastic back phone rather than metal back phone. ...(That won't do). Hopefully the redmi 5 plus (if it exists is a bit more premium).

WOW this phone looks much expensive for what it is sold for.

I'm pretty sure the specs would be:
                      5.5' (18:9) 1440 x 720p
                      Snapdragon 450
                      3GB/4GB RAM
                      32GB/64GB Storage
                      13MP Single Camera f2.0

I live in China guys , I am using the Xiaomi Redmi 4X ,its perfect in battery life , 4100mAh with 2G Ram + 16G Rom , is what I used , I bought it back in March 2017 when it launched , it was using Google Android 6.0M with MIUI 8.5 , the low ram did make some problems but not that big , but the storage did ( while I dont really use that much apps) but since November 2017 , with the release of Google Android 7.1N with MIUI 9.1 , it becomes much faster , maybe twice as fast , also battery even more improved , so , if there is a Redmi 5 , I would certainly get it but I wont if it has 3300mAh as you me mentioned , as its low , the best thing in this device is battery life with 4100mAh , and if the next version will be 4100mAh or more , it will be very good addition , but reduce to 3300mAh , no thanks

Merwyn Fernandes, 29 Nov 2017This Device Is being released just to fool people The o... moreDude, are you drunk or something. This article is not about RN5 but R5 and if the specs turn out to be true it will be a huge upgrade from R4X/4(international). And as far as battery capacity reduction is concerned, 3300mAh with 625lite/450 should provide comparable battery life to 4100mAh with 435 combo though, i would have loved to see a 4100mAh battery.
You are comparing it with Honor 7x which costs 1299¥ in china and this guy is supposed to come at a price of 799¥.

Xiaomi is going to launch 3 varients of the Redmi5 lineup. New Redmi 5 plus will come with 625 and slot right in between the R5 and RN5 and will be priced around existing RN4.
Xiaomi can't afford to go wrong with RN5 so it will be launched with improved screen, processor, design and most importantly Cameras and will be priced slightly higher than R5 plus.

This Device Is being released just to fool people

The only difference here is the 18:9 screen ratio which also looks fugly as it has been taken from Pixel XL 2.

Honor 7x bezeless looks much better than this

Other specs are just a complete letdown what's the difference between Rn4 and Rn5 other than the 18:9 Screen

This is a good time for other competitiors like Moto & Honor to Beat Xiaomi to the Punch

This is just not acceptable in 2018 SD 625 and Micro USB , Moto G6 Has a good chance here

I was really excited for the Redmi Note 5 and as the leaks keep coming it starts to turn into more and more of a disappointment.

This will be my new phone, small and lighter too. I wonder will the buttons be in screen or capacitive, from the picture looks like capacitive, i prefer in screen.
