Coming from a Redmi Note 4x user, am disappointed in this spec, sd625 by this time of the year? Seems like I'll look elsewhere for my rn4x replacement. Sony, here I come.

These prices are fair. Known brand with acceptable quality. For sure they are rising the prices, but they have a reason. Those phones need twice more material than Redmi 4. You can make a roof for your house with 2 devices.

Looks like Xiaomi’s new strategy to bring so many models(to make buyers confuse) and increase base price year by year, I am thinking it will not work, people will compare with Moto G, Honor Xx series which has better build quality and cameras.

It seems like Xiaomi is abandoning the true mid-level market in favor of the high-end level and the entry level markets. Its a shame especially where the mid-level market smartphones - Redmi note 3 Pro and Redmi note 4 (mtk) - are the smartphones that in 2016, created the market breakthrough and growth for the Xiaomi brand.

I have noticed a very weird thing with Redmi 5's design. Redmi 5's sides are also made out of plastic unlike only top and bottom plastic portion on the back of Redmi 3/3S/4. Though good quality plastic on the edges can withstand more rough usage and drops than Aluminium (might be the reason why Xiaomi went with this design), having multiple joints on the exterior surface may or may not cause some kind of structural failure keeping in mind that exterior of the phone is it's most abused physical component. Redmi 5 Plus have the usual tried and tested design.
So, It would be interesting to see how this thing holds up in long term.

I like phones with a small bezel. But i dont like having no side bezel (like the Samsung S8) and i dont like the 18:9 aspect. Xiaomi missed the mark a bit here.

Xiaomi is losing its unique competitive edge. The much smaller batteries of the newer phone releases and the stupid, elongated 18:9 NarrowView displays are alienating its diehard fans. What good is a longer 18:9 screen that still doesn't display photos in Facebook feeds larger because of the silly NarrowView aspect ratio? What good is the sleek and slender looks when it can't last a day because of a smaller battery? Goodluck Xiaomi. I'm sure these will sell much worse than the previous Redmis. Better buy the Redmi Note 4x and the Mi 5s plus or the Mi Max 2 instead of these two bad releases.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2017LOL WTF, too square? So it's better to be taller just because? No, tall is not good. Didn't you read my post?
You want the total dimensions to be 2:1 (height to width), it's the most ergonomic ratio of dimesnions on a phone. So bezeless 16:9, unfortunately some phone makers went ultra tall or but bezels on top and bottom (like xiaomi) so they're not close to 2:1.
I'm not saying that the tall screen trend is not retarted at time. What I am saying that it started as a good idea (and it is often implemented well, especially when the phone does not get *too* tall)

Xiaomi is doing great as each year passes on. One thing that is missing is fast charging in mid range segment of Xiaomi phones. Although redmi 5 and plus miss it (since they haven't mentioned it anywhere) so lets see if redmi note 5 going to show it and it should actually considering Motorola us putting this feature in its mid range segment like Moto g series which is quite a competition for Xiaomi note series and also dual camera set up is also a necessary feature to come with.

I have a xiaomi, 07 Dec 2017As per usual, very disappointing choice of weak chipsets...... moreVery weak chipset, what are you saying, in 150$ what are you expecting snapdragon 845. Clear your facts first, Vivo and Samsung offering same chip set in more than 300$

So Redmi 5/5+ are like Vivo V7/V7+ with same form factors (5.7" HD+/6" FHD+) with Xiaomi offering more generous battery and slightly more powerful chipset, but Vivo offering higher resolution cameras. Looks like Xiaomi's offering is also more affordable.
