Samsung Galaxy S9 will keep the fingerprint scanner on the back

I stayed with S7 because I often want to unlock the phone while it's on the desk, bed or docking. Front FP scanner was ideal as I don't need to hold the phone to reach the back side of it.

No Under-Screen Fingerprint Sensor. I am guessing it will Compromise the Display quality. Also, it may make the phones thicker.
I hope Samsung makes a 10-bit 4-2-2 recording version (or an 8-bit 4-2-0 as Capable as the SLog 2 Profile on its Mirrorless ILC Range with a similar 100-bit codec) of the S9 as well as some higher resolution photo tricks. I also think they need a minor tweaking of the algorithms for the cameras, on the lines of the Pixel 2.
The 20MP sensor on the Sony Xperia XZ Premium seems like a wasted effort. They could have fixed a faster lens on that one and uswd super HDR to beat Pixel 2 photo quality levels. Also the .27 second 960fps is a joke. Too short for any real use.
The S9 should IMHO have:
1. Variable Bitrates for Video (20-120mbps) along with LOG Profile on the lines of the SLog on Sony Cameras or the VLog on the Panasonic GH5 (10-bit). Dynamic and Grading should be the main considerations for this one.
2. A new sensor that does 60fps Full Res Sensor for SUPER HDR on the lines of Pixel 2, but just way better. Also WAY better Low Light Photos. If it had Dual ISO like on the Panasonic Varicam, EVA etc, one @ISO400 and another @ISO3200, it wohld be superb.

It might be a screenshot taken on A8+(A7 2018 model)
It has nothing to do with S9.

AnonD-638825, 11 Dec 2017I'm sorry, but glass and aluminium are not very expensive m... moreAgreed about Aluminum and Glass not being that expensive. Not sure about Ceramic (it's used in some kitchen supplies which vary from cheap to expensive), however Titanium is definitely expensive.
I used to work in a factory that welds and machines metal ducts and Titanium ducts were about 4 times more expensive than aluminum ones, despite being about 2/3 the thickness of the later.
Of course being phones, the amount of material you end up using is minimal, so the price difference may not look strikingly higher.

I think many people have misinterpreted the image. The fingerprint sensor will be bellow the camera. The image shows the heart rate sensor (you'll find the image is used to guide people when using the fitness app).

What? Heart ♥ rate sensor?
No wonder Samsung is such a failure which keeps on introducing useless piece of gimmicks over gimmicks.

Hoping they make the camera itself the finger print scanner and install it without cover glass I.e. You paste your finger print right on that wonderful blue lens

Samsung's method: make users frustrated about themselves, smudging that damned camera for the sake of security using your own filthy fingers! Brillinat!!

It's not about how expensive they are (the materials), you need to keep in mind the manufacturing cost. I'll bet that is more expensive to manufacture the back of the phone from glass or titanium than aluminium or plastic.

Anonymous, 11 Dec 2017Some actually like to see their very expensive design and f... moreI also never use case on my phones what I noticed is Samsung phones are better without case and remain perfect for long time. My S6 edge still looks new, my S8 is perfect even after 7-8 months. No case no protector. Tho my iPhone 7 was completely ruined with scratches in 3 months but that might be due to the jet black finish

Even ceramic and titanium, the ones in the Essential PH-1, aren't that expensive (but could be called very premium materials due to their scarcity on other devices).
I still dislike the fact that Samsung uses plastic fingerprint scanners instead of actual glass or ceramic ones to improve durability.

AnonD-705970, 11 Dec 2017the low range always carry the scanner behindWhat, and the high range, just don't give you the choice of a fingerprint scanner (e.g IPhone X)
Is that what you are saying?

Anonymous, 11 Dec 2017Some actually like to see their very expensive design and f... moreJust because you use a case does not mean you can't enjoy the phone as intended.
I don't superglue a case on. I simply take it off in my house for example and put it on when I'm out and about.
I think it's Just taking a sensible approach.

yeah, it's practically useless they'd better off catapulting it. there's simply no more convenient location for fingerprint detection than the home button as mi6 proves.

I actually prefer the fingerprint scanner next to the camera, it is in a more comfortable position in the way I hold the phone
