They dropped it because they couldn't get the brightness uniformity right. Seems like That's finally fixed, so I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung will do a surprise early announcement at CES.

Didn’t Samsung say they had trouble with security using this? That was why they dropped it on the Note 8. Hopefully they fixed it.

It might be LG but they just recently launched the V30. I don't believe Sony will introduce it since they are hardheaded. They don't innovate anymore.
I think it might be samsung since they always innovate.
Google may also be up for a surprise. Let's wait and see

It was very expensive when they had a 11" oled tv in Japan back 2008.
Now they have been working with Panasonic.
Both have oled tv

Vivo isn't a tier 1 manufacturer. Sony is barely still there at this stage. Sony is also allergic to OLED, since the day they stupidly sold off all of their IP to Samsung and others. So, LG? OR is Samsung cheeky and launching early to capitalize on the bad press The Notch is struggling to shake off?

they said top 5 OEM.
not apple of course,
we know it's not Samsung S9 - because only the Note9 would have one
it's not Oppo or Vivo - because they work with qualcomm and not synaptics
So only Huawei remains - so P11

it's gonna be LG.
most probably G7, but could be a mid-range model and not a flagship like G7 (a mid-range model - to be on the safe side, and not risk the flagship).
It could also be HTC.
But it won't be Sony. Sony is a late-adopter, not an early one...

The source news (Synaptics) says a "Tier 1" phone, ie flagship, from a OEM that is in the Top 5. This means the Q1 2018 flagship device from either Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, or Xiaomi.
Since I figure its not Apple, that leaves the five others.
It was rumoured to be the Samsung Galaxy S9, so it could be that.
Or the Huawei P11, very likely.
Or the Oppo R12/OnePlus 6, not likely.
Or the Vivo Xplay7, likely, but its being developed by Qualcomm nor Synaptics.
Or the Xiaomi Mi 7, quite likely.
It feels like a race at this moment.
Oh, while other OEMs like LG, HTC, Moto, Sony, Nokia, Blackberry flagship devices are clearly not in the Top 5 OEM list, this doesn't necessarily exclude them. Though, I would assume it does exclude OEMs like Lenovo, ZTE, Meizu, Asus, etc etc.
