Wasn't the problem Tango wasnt accurate enough to be used for anything useful anyhow, and then software and a single camera works fine for not so accurate AR anyhow.
Too bad Google didnt actually pull it off... Would have been cool if it had worked.

... moreIt's clearly not the end, it's just the typical selective click-baiting these sites has profited from since day one. Google was never going to integrate hardware into all OEM devices.
They're obviously confident that the early development stage is done and are moving on to setting up the ecosystem that the OEM's will tap into. Like Daydream or any other Google catered feature on Android.

Sony brought AR to mobile.

It works on front camera too. .
