Anonymous, 12 Jul 2011Looks dull and uninteresting... get in line behind sgs2. Cya.But it (ray) doesn't look like an iPhone, it's so original and proofing that the designer have a brain. Cao.

It's listed in Germany at one vendor for €312. It's too early to tell but if that's indeed the street price, then I'll buy one.

In terms of hardware, this is exactly what I want. I want a compact phone with decent resolution (no gigantic, unwieldy 4,3" screen bricks, thank you very much) and I don't want to pay significantly more than €300 for it.

So yeah, the Galaxy S2 and other high-end phones are great but they're too big and too expensive for me. I can live with last year's hardware (and that's pretty much what you get with the RAY) as long as the price is right. And there's good chance that this will be the case with the RAY.

Nice, but it's small and very expensive. 555$~480 euro so Galaxy S2 or Optimus 2x or Sensation is best choice

Pantes, 12 Jul 2011You are wright, nothing is perfect!)but i know and you know ... moreI have used older SE phones (Walkman phones) and they were great at the time, never failed on me, hell I could easily use it for another two years. So definitely, the build quality was there. But, the Xperia line is new territory for SE - they are new to Android too. And in that, you see that other companies have more experience, started earlier, bring out their models earlier, and also bring out models that trump the SE alternative at any price range.

That gives me the impression SE is not the place to be for Android (yet). What country the maker is from, really doesn't matter. Besides, Ericsson is European, not Japanese.

What this phone has that makes it successful are the Arc features in a metal body that not bigger than a W902. No other vendor offers this. Great phone!

Dual core? No, but who needs it nowadays?
Too small display? That's the reason why it was build - why don't you buy a Neo or Arc?

what this phone needs to become successful would be a lower price, not because dual core iphone copycats from samsung and LG appeared at the same price range but because the mass market needs phones that provide high end functions at mid-high price tag like the old but famous K750. i don't care if its not dual core as Gingerbread isn't optimized to use multicore CPUs and we don't need to do a split time number crunching on a phone, it's the GPU that needs speed bump. i wouldn't buy a phone just because i've got all the features i can imagine on on paper.

Anyone want to bet this phone will be $450 or under off contract?

They are charging $599 at Sony's Sonystyle store for the Xperia Arc. No way will this phone be that much. This phone may end up being about $400 or so.

Pantes, 12 Jul 2011You don't understand the most important thing!)All se phone... moreThe only real added value of the SE Xperia line of phones is the design - they stand out and also bring a nice custom UI.

However if you compare one-on-one each of them (except maybe the X10 Mini pro) has one or a few drawbacks/lesser specs compared to an equally priced handset of either Samsung, LG, etc.

Why bother producing this phone when the Arc is already out? Concentrate on a better spec phone, which they must be doing.......
