We don't need 16 mp selfies when the rear camera is 12 mp to begin with. Quality>quantity. Remember the days when 24 mp cameras we're all rage on phone. Find few these days....

2 front camera is for 3D facial recognition.. It will probably also feature Infra red illumination.. But instead of 30,000 points it will use the whole 5MP of 3D data for identification.. Much simpler and more accurate than Apple's FaceID

If you are not going to take 4k video with front camera 5 MPx is perfect. Main camera has bigger sensor so it can have higher resolution, and you are going to take pictures that have a lot of things in it. Since front camera has smaller sensor it's better to have larger pixels for low light. You don't need high resolution for selfies. Do you really want to see imperfections in your skin on your selfies?

I mean, mid rangers like the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro could take 4K videos on the front camera, yet this flagship doesn't have the resolution to take one, nice!
In theory, if the phone is bezel less, then the largest sensor size of the front camera that you can put in it is around 1/4" like the Galaxy S8/S8+/Note 8. 5mp will produce good photos but mediocre overall quality due to lack of resolution.

XZ Premium struggles quite often in low light, but that's it. In daylight, despite the higher resolution, the larger sensor of the XZ Premium's front camera has got those phones you've mentioned beaten.

Reason: ... moreYepp, aside from what you mentioned ...the specs sound more like an updated Nokia 8 (2018), which is will supposedly announced with the Nokia 9. This would also make sense, since the Nokia 8 wasn't released too long ago, so a small bump in specs sounds like a decent update to keep the 8 on par with other devices of the same range.
