Google updates Android Market app on the phone

13 July, 2011
Google has face-lifted the phone iteration of Android Market app. The new design ditches the curvy lines of the previous version and uses a more functional squarish design. The new UI fits more apps and...

pik, 15 Jul 2011looks like everyone everywhere is copying MS......You do realise that the geometric shape of a square is nothing new to this world, right?

IOW it's not all that shocking in terms of UI design. All OSes are copycats starting from the first ever phone to be created.

My point was pretty clear but all you said was how Android receive more hate because it's the top OS and the rest were completely irrelevant. Typical flamer with no arguments...

By the way, I'm a tech fanboy. I go with the best in the market. Current best is Samsung with Android.

First of all if you look at Samsung's history you'll find out that they actually started by copying other devices, improving them and selling for lower price. That's what they've always done and that's their strategy. They take what they see as the market leader, improve these products and sell superior versions for lower price under the "Samsung" brand. That's what has happened to Sony TVs, fridges and now mobile phones. Today Sony has to buy Samsungs panels and pay millions to be a part of joint-venture with Samsung who now produces best tvs, Apple has to buy components and ideas from Samsung for their phones. You're ignorant to how the market works. It's not about who copies who but who has the best product. We wouldn't have cars if it wasn't for someone who invented the wheel, we wouldn't have Android as it is if it wasn't for Apple but we wouldn't have iOs if it wasn't for Windows Mobile, HP or other companies producing pocket PCs and smart university kids who came up with a lot of cool technologies. That "ooh you copied that" makes me sick, and usually comes from people who buy products from companies that copy the most ideas.

every brand sucks at some point...
and some interfaces looks like another brand...
that's normal ... that's like some cars look like each other...
My point is that nomather what you choose, there is ALWAYS something negative to find...
think 7 years back when only bosses of big companies had bluetooth and stuff...
now everybody has bluetooth... but that not enough now for some people so they want bluetooth 3.0...
                      When will it end???
                      NEVER!!!

In your case, you're a Samsung fanboy through and through and you drink too much of Google's Kool Aide. Gone were the days when geeks applies the term "fanboy" exclusive to Apple fans.

Android has become BIG and is now the cool thing to hate. It's no longer the underdog to root for. It has become the Windows of smartphones. It's the MCDonald's of smartphones. It's everywhere but it doesn't mean it's good. It is now the target of the "tall poppy" symdrome. Android was once like David but it is now Goliath. You get what I mean?

If you looked at the link I posted earlier, you'll see how Android looked like before the iPhone UI was unveiled. Android's original UI was a rip of BB OS and when Apple unveiled the iPhone UI, Google saw how it's supposed to be done and drew inspiration from iOS. You cannot deny that and argue that it was just a coincidence.

Samsung copied the iPhone look and feel. Go and show any 3 year old the iPhone 4, SGS 2 and the Arc and ask the kid which one looks like the iPhone and the kid will choose the SGS 2. Trying to defend Samsung on this front is like claiming an orange fruit blue. Samsung copied the colorful square backgrounds they put on their icons on the App drawer from the iPhone. No other OEM does that blatant rip off aside from Samsung.

I hope Samsung loses their fight against Apple and I do hope that Samsung gets to pay MS some HUGE royalties. Samsung is the most disgusting OEM and I have little respect for that manufacturing giant with no originality.

I do hope Apple starts using the newly acquired Nortel patents and demand Samsung to pay royalties.

I'm a Nokia fanboy but in my case, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

AnonD-1131, 13 Jul 2011Dude, you don't see a lot of iPhone fanboys hanging out on ... moreYeah you don't see lot of Apple fanboys shouting logical arguments either. They got nothing to defend. They accept their "lack of (insert feature here)", they also can't deny that the notification is 90% identical to Android. You are so biased it's disgusting. There's hordes of mobs for every platform. You seem to have forgotten the term "fanboy" is most popularly used on Apple fans.

It doesn't matter how Android really got to where it is now because right now it's completely distinguishable from other platforms. The new Market UI looks like the TouchWiz with screen full of widgets not square tiles. WP7 will flip left when a tile is tapped. The Market's UI fades to Feature, Top Free, Free categories then it swipes left or right between those categories which was already there before the update. Listing the apps, they divided into 2 columns to fit more apps in one view. Same layout, but 2 apps per line instead of 1. There's no copying there.

Honestly, I don't really care who copies who. If I can get an iPhone with notification system and widgets then I would. But Apple accused Samsung for "slavishly" copying the iPhone and then they "slavishly" copies the notification system. If you think that's fair then... I don't know what isn't. What's there for Apple fans to defend Apple with, when Apple makes such shamefully hypocritical move?

It's okay for Android to rip off design elements of other platforms and the Android fanboys praise Google for the "upgrade". But when Apple copied the notification system from Android, they trash talk Apple.

Android has become the Windows of smartphones. It's only a matter of time before the "tall poppy symdrome" sets in.

What you see more often are the hordes of Android fanboys who acts with a mob mentality.

You cannot deny that the new Market UI is a rip of WP. Just watch the video and look at how "Movies" is divided into sub-categories. You swipe to the left or right just like in WP. That UI was not present in previous versions of Android but it's on WP since day 1.

You call this an "upgrade" yet Android fanboys talk smack about the WP UI and interface. You guys are drinking too much of Google's Kool Aide. If you can recall, the original UI of Android is a rip of BB OS and when Apple showed the world the iOS UI back in 2007, Android drew inspiration of it and you guys don't acknowledge that.

Check out my link below and you'll see how the original Android UI looks like before it copied iOS.
