Google planning to open physical stores in India to boost Pixel phone sales

27 December 2017
The brick and mortar stores, or "experience centers," could be launched towards the latter half of 2018.

Prometheous, 27 Dec 2017What does law and order have to do with this?Well, I was referring to the nightmare a consumer goes through if the product they buy is not up to the standards. In the states, lawsuits and suing a company makes them more responsible which sadly here is missing due to non-stringent legal framework.

Wonder how manufacturers don't realize the market sensitivity, opening stores won't help in India, Xiaomi doesn't sell its smartphones in its brick and mortar stores and they sell plenty of phones in India, the whole market is price sensitive, Nexus lineup would have sold better than pixel lineup, not many will buy phones priced like pixels, When was the last time did Google see people lining up for Samsung stores to buy Samsung phones.
yet Samsung dominates Indian market but not because of Note line up or S lineup, they have major focus on budget phone range.

Long story short, rather focus on getting price right than on physical stores that will be present in like 10 cities of India.

The problem is elsewhere. People buy hardware. If your phone has a sucky camera or screen the mass will instantly recognize it, they are much more patient with bad uis (look at the immense success of old nokia which had uis straight from the garbage bin).

Pixels are consistently last in hardware features. Their cameras are excellent but that is not enough to jusify their exorbitant sizes. For some timme now Apple offers the best hardware by far which is why it has retained its lead in flagships sales, although it seemed to be losing it back in 2014 (back when Samsung was still competing) they marched forward since (and the rest regressed, androids really offers sh*tty hardware by at large at this point, wih pixel being the worst offender of android flagships).

Apart from the camera and speedy (buggy) updates, there is no reason to pick this over other established and more feature rich competitors! Nexus at it's price and position as developer device made sense but just renaming it to Pixel, add a good camera algorithm and use premium H/W with build won't do. The software experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Reduce the price.. It will boost.. similar to iPhone.. when a new iphone get launched price of previous model gets reduced. Hence the sales of those models. This year iPhone 6 sold more than 7 or recently launched 8..

It won't work. I have owned many Nexus devices, and played with the Pixels, which from a hardware angle, are superb. The issue is, Google's telephony UX is a disaster. I cannot fathom it out, and I'm a geek. Trying to find a contact or even dial a number is a pain in the rear end. Compare to Samsung, whose UX is both aesthetically pleasing and innovative, such as swiping on a contact to dial or message. When punters pickup an iPhone, there's familiarity and common sense design.

Plus, unless Google bring their prices down and offer more colours, they are only going to sell to the same geeky demographic who bought the Nexi.

To see how to to a simple Android UX correctly, see Motorola phones, fast, nice to use and whilst still not perfect, there are some smarts in the UX that make the phones convenient to use.

BTW, we have a Pixelbook, and it's superb in everyday. Best laptop ever made.

Wish they plan to fix issues faced by Pixel 2 line and also, make Pixel and Pixel 2 price more appropriate as current prices and issues reported so far don't look like a premium experience!
