Thab33f, 30 Dec 2017Stupid move from Xiaomi to kill off their best selling redm... moreI agree that Xiaomi uses quite confusing naming scheme for their product line. But dropping "note" moniker is wise choice. But I don't like the "plus" name, too. "Note" and "Plus" names are from Samsung Galaxy note or Apple iPhone plus line, and implies larger display size, which is not the case for the Redmi 5/Redmi 5 plus. And they used Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite name for low-end models.
I would use alphabet based name + number for generation and lite or pro moniker. So Redmi 5 plus become Redmi R6, Redmi 5 => Redmi R6 Lite, Redmi 5A => Redmi T6 , Redmi Y => Redmi V6 , Redmi Y Lite => Redmi V6 Lite. So order of, from high to low, Redmi R6, Redmi R6 Lite, Redmi T6 , Redmi V6 , Redmi V6 Lite. Alphabet A-P, Q, S, U and pro moniker were reserved (the P, S were used too frequently by other vendors) for future expansion.
The higher priced models like Xioami Max phamblet line and Mi Mix, Mi 5, Mi Note, Mi A1 (Mi 5X) will be named similarly but using Mi family name instead of Redmi. For example, Mi Mix 3 => Mi B6, Mi 6 => Mi D6, Mi Note 3 => Mi F6, Mi Max 3 => Mi H6, Mi 5X => Mi J6, Mi A1 => Mi L6, so the likes. Alphabet A, C, E, G, I, K, M were reserved for future expansion.

hmp, 30 Dec 2017they nit killing redmi note they just rename it to redmi plusBut the redmi plus 5 is just the redmi note 4 with an 18:9 screen, Xiaomi has been using the Snapdragon 625 way too much, it's really frustrating.

I just keep wondering, who would want this phone, given so many better options from competition?

Redmi note 2018 version would be call MiA1 2018 version. Because only diff bw two is camera set up and battery backup so Xiaomi decide to put all feature in one phone instead of launching two separate ones. Moreover there might be a plus versio which might use 660 soc other wise standard version will use 630 soc.

I don't understand one thing: Camera protruding is totally ok to me, but despite that, why an aperture of f2.2?
I have a phone with this aperture and it sucks at low light, despite big 1.4um pixels!
Xiaomi is not working on the camera much I think.
