BUT the easier it is to produce an update, the more likely they are to actually do it.
IF they can take the next OS version and/or OS-security patches and do the adaptation for all their models in one go, they are MUCH more likely to release it for older models than if they have to do individual development for each model.
I'm not saying whether or not HMD will be good at updates - only time will show, and we will know in a couple of years if they actually were... And I was talking in general terms, not HMD only.
But SURE it would be nice if any manufacturer offered the users the OPTION to unlock their devices. The BIG question in this aspect is how you make sure that only people that really know what they are doing will do so? As any bad experience easily are blamed the device and thus the brand.
If a device is tampered with so say the battery control is messed up to a degree where the device end up exploding - it would easily be the model/brand that would be blamed in the narcissistic media. A risk no manufacturer can ignore these days.

Please release the Nokia 7 worldwide.. It is the best offering from HMD right now.. SD630 with 4GB ram paired with a 16MP zeiss lens.. Now with OREO!! If not then I'll just have to import it then

The idea is to make ... moreIn response to your points:
1) As the devices are bootloader-locked, Treble is only affecting the software division at HMD, not the end-user. And HMD are already dedicated to a fast and lengthy software support.
If HMD's choice is to launch a device either without Treble, or Treble-ready but with an earlier version of an OS, they quite obviously have a reason to as it's only affecting them. Either there are a lot of bugs to iron out, or it's not as good as Google claims.
2) As the other person said, the Nokia devices are bootloader-locked. Warranty or not, you can't flash anything on them. You're reliant on HMD keeping their promises of their extensive software support.
I wouldn't buy an unlocked device without Treble-support right now, but a locked device? Sure. Doesn't matter either way in that case. That being said, I hope HMD rethink their approach to the bootloader.

The idea is to make a sharper split between the hardware drivers and the OS.
There are (at the least) two benefits of this
1) It will be MUCH simpler for the manufacturer to make security updates and new android version, as it could be used on many of the manufacturers models - ideally identically (remember the hardware dependency is in the unchanged Treble layer)
2) If the device is out of warranty - or you do not care about the warranty, it should -at least in principle- be possible to apply any version of plain android that rely on Treble.
Of course in real life we can expect to see Treble extended as new features are added to the next generations of hardware. And if newer version of the OS will depend on these new features, of course they will not run on older devices. But that is up to Google to keep the OS somehow compatible to the limited number of older Treble versions (Just like aPple do to support their limited number of older device) - we can only hope that Google will not add dirty tricks to slow down the old devices in aPple-style.
The PRICE is -of course- that the extra layer of abstraction could be expected to have some performance penalty versus direct access to the hardware.

Unless you want to flash a rom which you can't do on a bootloader locked device, treble is useless as it makes only the updates faster which are already fast enough.

IF a device is RELEASED with Oreo, it is required to support "Project Treble". And this should ease further upgrades along the line (better separation of hardware drivers and OS) - so thus longer update life gets easier and thus more likely.
But a device released with earlier android can be UPGRADED to Oreo WITHOUT supporting Treble.

Nokia 6 (2018) should have come with Oreo preinstalled.Now Nokia will provide Android P after Oreo & thats it.No Android Q.Most of the OEMs are fooling consumers this way. Android Oreo has been released more than 4 months.
