I have a Samsung A5 (2017). It's a good phone and still going strong. However, the Neon Flip case is knackered but I can't replace it - absolutely nowhere has any in stock. The phone doesn't work properly without an official Neon Flip case because there is some sort of chip in the case that turns the phone into immediate stand-by, whereas other cases just slowly dim the screen and you have to wait while the screen slowly returns before using it. So that seems to be planned obsolescence to me.

After few years I changed the battery of my Galaxy S4 by a samsung battery. Then the battery never fully charged, the phone goes sometimes down at 30% charged, or the battery goes down very very fast (2 hours with wifi or some phone call). It seems to be planned obsolescence. some solutions?

Friend came with her Samsung Galaxy dropped into water, now it is endlessly booting in a loop and of course she was unable to remove battery fast because it is sealed as much as possible to prevent user replacing or taking it out (it is still booting in a loop btw, making more damage to circuits). Notice absence of water protection that corporate shills advertise as a reason for sealed battery ;)

Try not to buy those phones, also, stop buying new ones and go to service to replace battery, kick them hard, stop buying their trash! /Written from Europe

And never install updates. Make sure you disabled automatic updates and forced updates. Also, never buy phones from the mobile operators (carriers). Always buy factory unlocked phones from independent shops. Because mobile operators remove features and options (like FM Radio, option to disable automatic updates, ...), pre-install bloatwares and push forced updates that you can't prevent without root.

Since Samsung started copying iPhone since Galaxy S6, they implement as much planned obsolescence as possible. The non-removable battery is as close as is definable to planned obselecence.

My Note 4 died not long after I installed MM.

I suspect it overloads the hardware and inevitably leads to self destruct.

After exactly two years my Galaxy S4 and later Note 4 started having mysterious problems. I'm noting the two years mark because that's how long I had payment plans for each. So basically after the phones were paid off. The S4 suddenly had a constant "Sim card removed, Reboot" message and the only choice was to keep rebooting. Note 4 developed a problem where it wouldn't always power on. The Note 4 would be dead for an hour then after some tries it might power on. I also noticed this happened after "security" updates. It's pretty freaking suspicious if you ask me. In the past I owned Nexus phones which, by the way, ALL still work, including the Nexus One! I've since gone back to Google and have a Pixel 2.

Back in the day, I would defend Nokia neck and tail because Nokia simply rulled. Besides the well known high quality cameras, Nokia had all features you could dream of in a phone. Nokia smartphones where truly smart-phones and not useless toys to go on Snapchat and will be obsolete in 6 months.

Nokia had FM radio transmitter-receiver, cable earpiece phone control, HDMI out, dedicated mic-in, even the cheapest Nokia smartphone not in the N or E-series had good dedicated audio DAC (something so scares in latest phones), of course removable batteries but the best part is very easy to open and fix hardware, of course solid durable hardware, they had OLED since back in 2009, you could even use your Nokia with mouse and keyboard to edit documents on an external screen, NFC in 2009, Xenon flash, GPS, accelerometer (or maybe gyroscope), compass for GPS, light sensor and automatic brightness, also
Software wise Nokia had a Beta Labs (like today but in better, at least I don't have a Nokia now so I can't tell), in the Beta Labs they had all type of prototype software like things Glance Screen, tap to wake-up, and the list goes on and on.
Nokia was insane. Until Microsoft or better said the Elop came. So, I can tell you, there is no need to be a fanboy, but simple some brands have clearly better philosophy than others.
