mojojojo, 29 Jan 2018of course they do. the question is how much? it's so minusc... moreiPhone processors are vastly superior to anything Android phones use. They have more computational power, they produce 50% better results than any CPU used in Android phones, but for this they need top notch power from the battery.
For the sake of comparison,
Take a very high end sports car (700hp+) that needs 99+ octane gasoline, and compare it to a normal petrol/diesel car that you see on the road that runs on 90-95 octane. If you put low octane gasoline in your high performance sports car, it will detonate sooner, causing the engine to not work correctly, leading to incredibly high temperatures in the combustion chambers which will damage the engine, melt spark plugs, etc. eventually making your car shut down.
Same with iPhones - they need a battery that is in good condition in order to function properly. That's the price you have to pay if you want performance. Otherwise, you can just get a road car (Android) and never worry about old batteries affecting your device.

You're right that battery degradation raises internal resistance. We also know that a battery's peak voltage can only decrease over time for the same reasons.
As a result the current supplied can go only down over time too - which eventually will be unable to power a phone.

While on average, the power consumption isn't much different from your typical Qualcomm flagship SoC, it's the design philosophy behind it that makes it different. Using some big core that can do stuff extremely quick, after which it goes back to low power mode, gives a core that has high power needs at that moment it wants to do things quickly.
It's that higher power need of the core that causes the problem, it's the reason why batteries that normally should function for another year or 2/3 start causing system shut downs. How else to explain that they can avoid the shut downs, by simply lowering the maximum speed (and with that voltage) on the cores?
A Qualcomm SoC just does not have the same unrealistic demands as Apple's SoC, making it so that phones with Qualcomm SoCs most commonly do not suffer from system shut downs caused by batteries until way later in it's lifespan. Unless of course, you by chance have a somewhat bad quality battery which can not deliver what it should.

Yes, I would, bur right after that I would sell it and would be looking for a real SMARTphone that runs on Android.
iOS is for grannies and people with very limited technical skills.
They should add a 3rd option: I would never buy, touch or use such a DUMBphone. Ever.

But even so, it wouldn't really matter. Apple have a very efficient system that get equal battery lives to their competitors. Slapping a bigger battery into their phones would not only ruin the design aspect of the phone - a major selling point - it would also not stop the basic laws of battery physics.

As batteries age, their internal resistance increase. The internal resistance is a determining factor for what load voltage a battery can deliver. If the internal resistance is too high, a high current draw will then cause a catastrophic drop in voltage, and the phone will terminate.

Not everyone with an iPhone is experiencing this either, it depends on how healthy the battery is. But the fact is that it _do_ happens to all phones with unhealthy batteries, not just iPhones. It's no question about it, just google, so many examples from all different phone models.

Why not? I will disable it once i have the battery replaced. Till then, perhaps I will have it on. As for those who complain not having the options for toggling options, just go grab an Android. Problem solved.
