HTC working on a budget 18:9 handset codenamed Breeze

05 February 2018
The extra-tall aspect ratio will likely be the sole outstanding feature on the entry-level handset.

I was assuming something more like $400. Htc's "midrange" prices are notoriously bad. And when was the last time you saw a phone with mtk that was actually cheaper? Oem's just use mtk to pocket a little more profit. In the states, the subsidized idol 5 (on cricket) had a p20 but is pretty much the same price as an sd625 moto g5+. The only thing I've seen get a real discount is the 7x with huawei's in-house chipset.

But don't expect something different from HTC. They would do exactly what we don't want to see - Put that damn MTK 6737 in this phone AND charge it $300, because it has trendy 18:9 display!!!

I guess, they will equip this phone with 3.5mm jack and people will not buy, they will say "see people don't buy 3.5mm jack phones!".

Mediatek chips are terrible, wouldn't have one in my pocket for $50.
Meanwhile watch my words, here Xiaomi sells Redmi 5A with Snapdragon 425 chip at less than $100 and there HTC will hawk the so called 18:9 display budget phone with Mediatek chip for a cool $100+.
OEMs cut corners and price cheap hardware for high, drop features and sensors as basic as the magnetic sensor just like that and still expect not only for people to buy their junk but to keep buying it for next 2 years. Cool.
I understand designing and making phones is easier said than done, putting money into R&D is another ball game and passing public comments is even more easy but it is high time OEMs stop robbing people of money, stop hawking junk for high, exorbitant prices and rob people of an opportunity to use good stuff which can be made available for decent prices by means of mass production.
                  Just food for thought.

We've already seen on their U Play how good a Mediatek SoC is in terms of software updates. No thanks.
