This is big. Eventually UPI should be able to replace wallets and debit card use in the country. We don't really need Visa / Master

alnherco, 10 Feb 2018You can already send/receive money on viber in my country. ... moreYes, only Bank Account Holders who have been verified eKYC norms using Aadhaar Biometrics can avail this UPI peer-to-peer fund transfer using just your mobile number. There are many solutions already in vogue like BHIM, RuPay etc..even SamsungPay has implemented this UPI.

Just launch the mobile app or use your mobile number, the app automatically linkup your Bank Accounts.

It has been made so easy even for semi-literate and even illiterates could mass adopt this technology.

UPI is way too innovative than most of the stuff available in today's world in terms of payment tech.

      Something is wrong here.

I'm enrolled in the beta programme in whatsapp. Still, the update I got had no mention of payments, in settings menu.
Plus, there's no mention on the pay store description as well.
@gsmarena staff : are you guys sure this is the real deal?

You can already send/receive money on viber in my country. But you have to be a client of one or two banks who offer that service

There are many digital wallets in India. Most of the Mobile Phone providers have this UPI, SamsungPay, PayTM etc...they all are accepted in shops, gas stations (though not all in some places).

PayTM by far simplest and even Airtel Money is great where you need to tell your mobile phone number at the counter, an OTP will be sent to your number which you need to share it.

I think WhatsApp is bit behind considering the payment solutions that are already available.

Google Tez is neat & just gets the job done. Will have to see how whatsapp implements the same in any better way.

I guess it will be a huge success because all the smartphones in India is having WhatsApp for sure... In future it may become what WeChat in China...

Google Tez UPI app is not much successful... Will be interesting to see how WhatsApp payments service can mark against PayTM (very very popular) and PhonePe (according to me the best).
