And that's why we see more advertising from phone makers than ever, to encourage (fool) people to buy phones, specially flagship phones. There's even "get the latest iPhone/Galaxy" programs, also to encourage (again, fool) people into replace their phone yearly. These are desperate attempts from phone makers to raise sales for flagships. Today there are more people that choose a midrange over a flagship, because they realize midrange phones are enough for them. In fact, midrange phones had become so good that having a flagship nowadays is mostly just for bragging rights. Few people actually take full advantage of a flagship phone.

Not surprising, the average person usually keeps their smartphone for 2 years or more anyway. And it is now common that people just buy midrange phones that have good enough specs. Phones have already reached saturation and many midrange phones are "good enough" for most uses. Only people who are either tech-savvy or have high income change phones yearly or buy flagship phones regularly.

Bu... moreTrust me, i have a Nexus 5 with Oreo on it (Lineage OS) and it runs like it ran Kit Kat when it first booted :P Today's phones have 6-8Gbs of RAM and powerfull SoCs. If Android and iOS won't evolve into a desktop like OS, you don't have to worry about it...

in 2015 the average SOT of flagships were 5-6h SOT
in 2013 flagships had like 3-5h SOT
Lithium batteries get better at holding charge and get smaller and smaller.
Android and OIS get always better optimized.
The adreno 540 on the snapdragon 835 has a total of 560GFLOPS of power, that's more than a PS3 can handle and it runs in a 3300mah battery. That's 2 alcaline battery you find in every supermarket.
Could you run a PS3 with 2 Batteries? never

Most videos entertainment apps don't even do 18:9 yet, and when u want to get the 18:9 result, what does this mean? Like what u said, cropped photos because of zooming in to make use and occupy the 18:9 aspect ratio, but results in poorer quality because it is zoomed in, or without zooming in it will literally look almost identical to how the experience is on a 16:9 smartphone with big bezels, that amount of bezel gap will be replaced by black bars. I like 18:9, same goes to the typical 16:9, but I don't see any rush for the brand manufacturers to push forward to 18:9, one reason basically because most videos don't support that aspect ratio, they should reserve the 18:9 aspect ratio until the time is ripe, where 18:9 is supported on most videos in entertainment apps. One advantage of 16:9 aspect ratio is that it doesn't have black bars. In comparison to the latter if both have the same amount of bezels that are thin, it won't have the black bars, because all videos supported it, hence u can watch it at full screen with making use of the thin bezels and not having black bars which is a ease. I wonder where will this 18:9 trend go, it is starting to affect some users out there already lol

When forcing full screen you get poor images quality with jagged lines or a cropped imgae, what is the point?
Nothing at all wrong with 16:9. Yes, 18:9 is more narrow, but is also longer than 16:9.

Almost all new phones have the extremely ugly narrow/small 18:9 screen, and all are too expensive while not really noticable improving performance at all because "older' phones are just as fast and able to play all the latest games lagfree!
1000 Euro for a PHONE is just stupid!

Seeing the current trend, i doubt apple will growth their userbased. It seems to me they already reach their maximum, and people already got bored by their product. Furthermore, samsung and huawei have archive that they were the cool guy now
