Google System being tested to locate 911 callers more accurately

16 February 2018
Smartphones shifted the cellphone industry, but the United States emergency call center still can’t locate cellular callers accurately.

LG superfan, 20 Feb 2018Then what do you use apple services? What is more important... moreGoogle's entire business model now consists of profiling its users based on their personal data, background, browsing history, social media posts, GPS tracking correlated with the habits and actions one takes when in a certain place, time spent in certain places, political preferences, metrics about media consumption as in what/for how long/how often people view certain media channels, what they talk about while viewing this content (always on microphone), who they meet with, what they buy, what they love, what they hate, what are their social cirles. Then comes the 'free' cloud storage for people's images.
They then take all this information, analyse it along with all the users' pictures, voice, internet and GPS history and with the help of AI, they create complete user profiles that they then use to try and predict a person's future actions, likes and dislikes, and serve that person with certain content while also denying other forms of content to the same person. By having this kind of database with this amount of information about the majority of people, they have the ability to control the free-flow of information that reaches each user, they can restrict or allow content to reach certain people, thus manipulating what people can see, hear, and think based on the information they serve them with.
Different people get different internet experiences and results based on Google's profiling.

And no, I'm not using neither Google's nor Apple's services - even though Apple's are just convenience services that just add value to their ecosystem, and they're not used to filter out the internet and deliver certain content to certain users, as they don't have control over something like that.

While on the other hand Google is there to filter content, and to manipulate what people get out of the internet.

Just do a number of search queries using Google vs. other search engines and see the difference in results you're getting.

      Peace out!

LG superfan, 17 Feb 2018Hats off to Google hope it becomes worldwide soonYou're kidding, right? Google needs to be purged from our lives. Our lives are ours only, and not Google's database of information.

I haven't used a single Google service in two years now.

And to think that people organise their life around Google's email, calendar, search, drive, etc., giving up all their personal information and intimate pictures and memories to Google's servers. Wow! And some even buy Google smart speakers. Just. Wow! So many sheep.

Yeah well the thing is on my phone Google is barred from accessing GPS, EVER. Now, I do have to take their word that they actually respect that option, and they might well not. But if things go towards open confirmation that they're openly overriding my choices, GOOGLE IS GETTING BOOTED from my phone. There are Google-less Android phones. Maybe it's time to get one.

So anyone will fiddle 911 emergency call API and know where you are. Nice google

Phase 2 accuracy is pretty good, but still sometimes it is a pain to locate a mobile call.

Robbie, 17 Feb 2018I do. I'd rather be dead. Then in case of emergency please dont dial 911

This is nothing new. Android has supported this feature for a couple of years now and after some lawsuit and a couple of fines, Apple was forced to include it as well. Most EU countries have already implemented it into their emergency services. The rest I believe are legally obliged to do so by the end of 2019. The same goes for 'smart' cars.

Simply speaking, if you care for privacy, why would you call 911?

Of course, Google doesn't respect privacy. Now Microsoft is also on the same path. Probably, Mozilla should follow too, but I hope that doesn't happen.

At least 2 commentators here are missing something: this does NOT provide Google any new/more information. This is Google sharing information they ALREADY HAVE with emergency call centers.
