S7 had a f1.7 aperture and things never went half as bad as you're making them out to be.
In fact, with fast shutters they clicked good pics of motion like racing, etc!
What GSMArena said is in general tone. Even in DSLR's, best quality is achieved at f8.0, but prime lenses (non zoom) have been known to give out stunning result at f/2.8 too. So, it depends on the construction of lens.
With a 1.4um pixel sensor, S7 managed highlights and shadows very well. Same for S8.
And you're applauding Sony's choices, well, I'm reminding you that Sony doesn't use big pixels in its phone, despite knowing that these pixels have only merits (except that a bigger sensor/ mobile body is needed).
Things are so bad that you can't shoot 960 fps video anywhere except bright sunlight....
Nokia used 1.75um pixels in its "N8". Go google N8's sample pics right now (actually do it), specially the lady and butterfly one, then tell me where your Sony's 2018 flagships stand... ?
Dude, I have nothing against Sony. In fact, they make probably the best camera sensors in the world.
But truth = truth, and you have to admit:- Sony are fearing cannibalisation- that their mobiles will kill their other industries (cameras, audio players, small TV's, etc.).
I can be false, but check GSMArena's camera and audio quality reviews (which are scientific by the way), and you'll know that after Ericsson split, Sony are definitely not the same.
Wider aperture's not definitely a bad thing. The right answer is, it depends on the quality & construction of lens...

Lol at those blind followers who always thinks that lower f values are always better.. Lower F values will lead to overblown pictures..
BTW... The genius engineers at Nokia have equipped the Nokia 808 with f2.4 since 2012.. with additional ND filter for bright sunlight situations.. Nokia 808 is still ahead of this S9.. Samsung will probably at last put ND filter in S10 or S11

Still, low light samples are among the best I've seen, but I'm not sure whether the samples were "polished promotional shots" or honest shots taken in "worst case scenario" to prove how the phone handles them. Still undecided, I guess we should wait for a comparison, when someone shoots this one and Note8 (and iPhone X, Pixel, etc) in the same conditions.

how? they used Sony sensor when xz premium in 2017 already recorded 960fps at 720p

It changes a lot the DOV.
Also it wont handle well all the light.
Look at the samples, if you apply zoom you will see.
It does look like pics taken from a 2011 phone.
Almost all samples have a lot of noise. Many even with ISO 50 look like pics at ISO 200.

It was mechanical, and really not impressive to do.
The only impressive part is the micro mechanical movement but once you learn what it is I think the mechanical shutter in any camera is more impressive.

They are complaining about every phone, even though they never used them. If it doesn't cost 5000 Euro and come with 15 interchangeable 3000-Euro lenses, they won't look at it, but it's not certain that any of them ever took a photo with their high-end gear. Check out what they said about Pixel 2.
Having said that, they are not laughing but debating. One of them even thought that S6, S7 and S8 had 16 megapixel. That's how much some of them pay attention. Some of them are angry because Samsung stopped making "real" cameras so they bash the phone. Anyway, mostly irrelevant comments and a few serious ones. It's a bit simplistic to say they are "laughing".

So, if you don't need f1.5 in bright daylight conditions, why didn't you think of this when you kept bringing the aperture down in your flagships, year after year? Why not just stop at f2.4 or just do f1.5 instead of f1.5 AND f2.4
