Adding to that, while computational processing can compensate a bit, the difference in dynamic range between an ILC and a smartphone is worlds apart. Then you have the issues of subject isolation, light transmission, vignetting, distortions, lens flares, etc.
Having more lower-resolution smartphone-sized sensors cannot compensate for the lack of a large unified sensor with large pixels. Not even in optimal lighting.

The concept of having more that one sensor in a phone is to compensate those single huge sensors in standalone cameras. So in a near future they should come close to each other but in a totally different way. In my opinion, phone with 3 sensors is already on par with micro four thirds, in a considerably optimum lighting condition. In a broad daylight photography, the difference maybe beyond human perceptions.

Just because it says 20 MPix on paper, doesn't mean you can actually resolve 20 MPix of information. That's in contrast to these 24 MPix FF ILSC's that can easily outperform even cameras like the 42 MPix Lumia 1020 in resolved resolution.

Hence why the a7Rii exists which has a 42mp sensor... but the price is eye-watering.

Of course a smartphone can't come even close to the real deal.
i would love take a superb shot of the moon and playing with the aperture/shutter speed settings. Light trails pictures, and so forth.
That's for people who have some time left and ofc, the $$$

For you, if you are satisfied with your cell phone, no need to go for full frame. And anyway, you really cannot compare cell phone and full frame camera. It is like comparing town car with a truck.
Anyway if you want something better than your cell phone, go for second-hand or for lower grade sony aka a6000 with APS-C sensor and that will do great job for less money!

But the th... moreI will bought it tho, the a7iii is not necessarily intended for pro, (it's for pro, but not limited to just pro's) because it's the middle ground between a7r series and the a7s series while bringing the highlights feature of the two
It's more for people that want to move to mirrorless or upgrading from typical smartphone shooter(a bit overkill i know)
But i agreed on your statement, general consumer might still better off with smartphone camera as they're capable enough for everyday snap and easy sharing for social media

Professionals might buy without second thought. Travelers might think about buying it too.
Or people who simply can afford it and liek to take some nice photos might opt for it too.
For me, there's is no way i could afford it. Technically i could but there are other thing much more important.
Ofc i would love having a camera like that associated with an expensive wide angle/macro lens.
But for now, the camera of my smartphone is really capable already and "enough" for my day to day use.

AnonD-696124, 27 Feb 2018awesome camera but too dam expensive.You got to look at it compared to the competition. There are micro 4/3 that are $2k (looking at you olympus). New fuji apsc is $1900. This Sony stomps them both to the curb hard. This camera pretty much changes the mirror less market. If you ain't full frame then it ain't worth it any more

Not at all bro, its cheap considering what is bring to the table. I bought the a7ii at the same price, and at that wasnt the camera this one is now. I hope you understand what i mean. This camera deserves 2000$.
