Qwerty2018, 03 Mar 2018I agree that the notch is shitty, but completely disagree w... moreCPU wise X20 is able to run its 10 cores more than 10minutes, SD65x turn off the Cortex A72 faster (in about 4 minutes).
CPU wise X30 is close to S835.
As you say PowerVR 7400 is a good GPU, it's close to Mali mp8 or mp10. There's a huge gap between X20's T880mp4 and X30's PowerVR, X30's GPU is 2.5 Time better (except for Tesselation).
X20 wasn't made to be an high-end soc
X30 was.
P60 use the same philosophy than X20 : big-cores like high-end, mid-range GPU, AI fonction (yes Mediatek starts AI with X20!), 4k capture

Please don't believe GPU's benchmarks...
They mostly test texturing.
Install tools like gamebench, and mesure framerate in real game.

Benchmarks give huge advantage to big GPUs (mp12, mp20...), In real games, advantage isn't as huge.
Sometime it's even the opposite.
Mali450mp6 (amlogic S812) get better benchmark than T760mp2 (mt6752) on gfxbench T-Rex, most games run far far far better on T760mp2.
One more thing on future games may be Tesselation...on this task, Mali are better than Adreno.
If you look attention 880mp2 (helio P20) and Adreno 506 (SD625), both are close, but on Tesselation, 880 is 60% better.

Shadocx, 02 Mar 2018So, shitty notch and now a MediaTek SoC? What's next, OneP... moreI agree that the notch is shitty, but completely disagree with MediaTek SoC as shitty.
In fact, their recent Helio X series (x20-x30) are comparable with Snapdragon SD65x, both CPU and GPU-wise.
I have known MediaTek SoC since 2011, and own a MT6577-powered Android.
Aside from GPS, old fabrication process which leads to inefficient battery usage, and limited to no Android upgrade, I could find no major flaws that could be called 'deal-breaker'.
In fact, many of recent mid-tier Snapdragon SoCs (SD65x / 660) are so pricey that make a 'joke' called SD62x series are so damn popular.
This is the 'gap' where MT shines, that with the same, or lower, price of SD62x SoC, they offer SD65x-equivalent SoC, both CPU and GPU-wise; Helio X2x series, which made it quite popular as an alternative SoC for 'budget-oriented' mid-range Android phone (around US$200).

I do find it strange that Helio x30 is unpopular, as it offers better performance in both CPU and GPU (4-core powerVR 7 series is quite a beast!) comparable to SD653 (at least).
My best guess is, they do the VERY same mistake Qualcomm do when launcing SD660; skyrocketing the asking price of the 'new' generation, which ended up badly

The reason MT launched the 'P' series only this time, is also the same as Qualcomm when launching SD636; revising the previous plan and asking price in order to create a 'makeshift' SoC to bridge the gap between the previously popular SoC (SD65x & SD62x/ Helio x20) to the current unpopular (but powerful) SoC (SD660 / Helio x30).

In Qualcomm's case, looking at the SD636 benchmark score, it is a "downgrade" version of SD660, but slightly better than SD653.
In MediaTek's case, they are 're-using' the scrapped design of Helio X30 in designing the P60; using 4-core Cortex A73, while keeping the same 8-core big.LITTLE used in P series.
Combined with the 12nm fabrication, specs-wise and benchmark-wise, Helio P60 is as powerful as SD660, but GPU-wise, 3-core Mali G72 is weaker than Adreno 512 (I wished MT keep the powerVR 7 series found in x30!).
I don't really care about 4K recording features, but I want p60 at least capable of recording 1080p @60fps, playing 4K h264 & h265 videos and support (at least) 18w fast charging to be able to cope with Qualcomm QC tech.

I do appreciate the ogle for less bezels. but hello? the sensors need to sit somewhere. and we've yet to find a way to implement an underscreen camera. I am not an apple hater, just a disliker. but anyhoot. as a developer I do find it both challenging, fun, and annoying in the same time to work with a notch.
our test softwares got an upgrade to support notches!

What happened to R12,13,14? Stop with with nontch sense
