Good news for Google, Motorola and Android. Bad news for Apple, Samsung, HTC, SE, LG, Nokia and people like me who don't care about smartphones and JUST WANT A NEW MOTOROLA FLIP PHONE! :-/

This is a wake-up call for Samsung, HTC, LG, SE and other mobile manufacturer to use your own mobile OS. I think Android will be xclusive soon to Moto..

I hope this means that Google can issue much needed software updates to Motorola models such as the Flipout, which really could benefit from an upgrade to Gingerbread

Great to see Google taking steps to fight off Apple's ridiculous patent war. Lets hope that they can smash Steve Jobs' nasty little walled garden once and for all!

If nokia are not going to use Android then they should come out with better OS, which can compete with Android. Symbian is good but will not last against android. In next quarter Samsung, LG are coming with some excellent phone, nokia is coming with some p500 (Symbian Annna) Nokia n9(Meego). let see who will win the battle of Q3

This story is similar to the Microsoft-Nokia alliance. Anyway, good job Google. You just strengthened Android more and made sure Android will last for years to come.

AnonD-616, 15 Aug 2011i am man and not need to explan you . and about nokia :-) y... moreHowever, if they did, they may not be in the dire financial situation they are currently in due to chasing an operating system that died in around 2007, when Android and iOS came along and showed that actually Symbian is terrible, old and slow.

i find it amazing that Google were banging on about how Appple and Microsoft were trying to bring them down with buying patents and now Google do the same thing. so i take it that we are going to see true inovation from Google since they have all these tools. The answer to that will of course be NO. Because they bought a company that produces some of the ugliest Android handsets ever. And yea i am sure the rest of the oems are siting going this is so great for us even though they have given statments saying that it is. of course this still wont stop Microsoft demanding $15 dollars for a handset and Apple will still continue go after Samsung but at least if Apple/Microsoft cough in the wrong direction in the future Google will be in a better place to play tit for tat. More and more i understand that Google dont give to snots about the phone business as long as they can throw ads at you all day and gather information to better do so that is their bottom line.

Fruitcake, 15 Aug 2011Apple have really got the Smartphone market changing with G... moreit's amazing to me that so many people are writing Nokia off. There brand image is amazing is so many places. where-ever cell phone towers are rare Nokia is king. The last I saw they were the number one smart phone seller. Elop does seem to be doing his best to lower Nokia's stock price.... is it a Microsoft conspiracy? I can't tell.
This acquisition is all about the patent defense. It's an attempt to quite Apple's legal staff. Microsoft & Nokia are have plenty of "patent" chips, thus unaffected by this deal.
