I thought this is an instant messages,once sent the recipient read it at once.

I bet someone at the developer team must be married and sent some mean s#/+ which they realised after an hour or so when they were free to think .
it is more of deleting evidence / record of conversation then stopping the read of the massage. this record can be enough to destroy relationships in near or far future.
