For me, the battery is a real downgrade, when the size of the phone actually gets bigger. Weird decision by Xiaomi there.

LLL, 14 Mar 2018Please enlighten me, what makes this better than Redmi 4 Pr... moreThis Redmi 5 series have fullview screen & curved edge display. Square display basically an outdated relic by now. That's why most latest batch of phones now offer curved edge display which can turns a cheap phone looks premium.
And gladly to note that Xiaomi never put its logo/brand name at its phone's front panel except at the rear panel. Better keep it clean unlike others eg. Huawei, Honor, etc. It looks cheap and overly generic.
Just to recap, here's the easy formula to sell a great cheap premium phone:
1. No logo/brand at front panel. Keep it blank & simple.
2. Fullview screen + Curved edge display
3. Dual camera setup with EIS.
4. Only black colour will do. White sucks.
5. Dual sim + dedicated SD card slot (in one single tray)
So that's all you need. Whatever crap SoC, memory, ROM it doesn't matter as long it looks good, modern & simple. Surely a big hit 500 million unit sales globally.

SD450 is 10-12% slower, but if your interest is games, the redmi 5 has 720p screen so games will run better than at the native 1080p of the redmiplus/note 5 (but the battery is smaller, redmi 4 was a small 5" but with 4100mah, what happened xiaomi??)

SD 450 is nerfed version of SD 625. ~200MHz less on CPU and ~50MHz on GPU.

Snapdragon 625 is the First 14nm 600-tier Snapdragon Processor While the Snapdragon 450 is the First 14nm 400-tier Snapdragon Processor.
Now quickly comparing the technical specification of both the processor.

just because something is newer it dosent mean its better.
SD450 is like the younger brother to SD625.

Redmi note 5 / 5 plus is definitely a better for 1k extra you get a better processor , better screen and a larger battery.
Xiaomi just botched its pricing with this one.
Pricing should have been 6999 , 7999 and 8999 for the 2,3 and 4 gb models respectively also comparing it to Motoroala and Samsung dosent really make sense as the quality difference between them is astronomical even the J series from Samsung or Moto E Series has better build quality than xiaomi phones.
