There seems to be so much confusion around notch-on-android - and that all content will stretch out and get "lost behind the notch". It's simply not happening right now.

The benefit of a notch, means notification bar can be relegated to the ears.
Meaning this bar , on android, does not occupy "regular" app screen real-estate.
And that's a damn good thing.
The bad thing - is that it makes the notification bar smaller, in terms of what information it can hold.
But come-on - who really "reads" notifications. The main content is key. Maximize screen space for that..
Which is also why I wish more would keep the capacitive buttons..

Of course the first guy in this article ,the guy who just paid 1000.00 for the Iphone X is going to say the notch doesn't bother him.There is no reason whatsoever to have an ugly notch messing up your status bar.Just because there are people who are so self absorbed that they HAVE TO HAVE a selfie camera is why the notch exists,plain and simple.Heck,Samsung could reduce the top bezel on the S9 and still keep lens,sensors,led notification....I like the X but I will NEVER EVER get a phone with a notch in it.For me,it is unsightly and obtrusive.iPhone X isn't a big seller anyway. I like what Vivo is doing with the pop up selfie cam,it's there for an as needed essential.

Notch is not bad unless you watch videos, I would say keep the notch and blackout that area for task bar and make it look like full bezel

It doesn't matter anyway because it's just biological law you'll just get used to it and even ignore what your phone looks like when using it day to day you nose does the same thing if you look live in a place that is smelly it'll just adapt to it and you can just make the black bars to have a "normal" 18:9 screen... Even worse this is customizable android so here we go again more vocal minority people that don't support the industry and were gonna complain about trivial things again as usual

when IPHONE X first came up there was ABSOLUTELY no apps that supports this odd screen size so when watching videos or playing games you can only use 16:9 of the screen the you will have IPHONE 4s like bezels same thing goes on videos how though about recording a 18:9 (or even the 19.5:9) and without an OLED screen tall screens and notch screens will only be battery consuming
so don't be fooled by the "FULL VIEW" display even the tall display isn't THAT awesome because if you cant turn of the the notch or the extra pixels on the tall display it is just a battery MONSTER
but not ALL notches are useless for example
xiaomi mix 2s has a small (maybe the smallest) OLED notch and it has more space fo notefunction and icons and not copying any one
LG V10/20 is the best example of a useful notch because OLED screen were expensive and had bad touch sensitivity so they used it for an "allways on display" secondary screen
I just cant wait for VIVO APEX to come out
BUT even if ti did
even if VIVO can prove that FULL screen is possible would author brand follow it ?
or would they just focus on "COPYING" Apple ideas ?

well ... I find it sad that more manufacturers are now going with the notch since the "all-mighty" Apple did it .
I'd rather go another year or 2 with a regular shaped screen an progressively smaller bezels like Samsung is doing until the technology allows for a truly bezel-less design with no need for cutouts/notches.

All the talk about "the notch" on tech sites is so overblown. iPhone X was most likely the most sold smartphone model of the last quarter (and outsold its cheaper, no notch siblings), obviously it was not a big deal for alot of people. I have yet to hear anyone outside of the tech sites mention anything bad about the notch. But tech sites are obsessed about it, for what? Fuelling fanboy wars? Alot of people do not like the Edge screens of Samsungs phones, its a design choice. If you do not agree with it just buy another phone.
Personly I think its a great way of maximising the normal screen area by having status icons next to the sensors instead of having to use the top of the normal screen area for that.
I do not notice it when watching moves of playing games. I keep my eyes on the center of the screen, not to the far left/right.

On this topic, I have a feeling that notch exists to help Apple avoid “copying samsung design” debate/aligations. Imagine iphonr x without notch but small bazel and with that glass back, it sounds like samsung galaxy 8/9. If Apple would have done that, it would have brought the memories of iphone vs galaxy s debate back but only other way round this time.
Personally I prefer phone without Notch.

Super thin top/bottom bezels with a notch looks better and more futuristic than one with forehead and chin. I personally think the S8/S9 design looks ugly and dated compared to the iPhone X.

Now we know everyone hate the notch in the smartphone. Because it was trouble in look . I want every phone do the bezel less screen like Samsung has done

If anyone thinks that a notch is anything but stupid then they need to get their eyes calibrated.
I can understand why you would do it but and there is a big but why would you do it if it means that the screen will have an odd loom.
Also apps would need to cater for such an appendage that should have been given the chop.
I know manufactures are looking at under glass mounting of hardware and I'm sure the tech is there for it.

Im just gona reverse this now imagine:- think about Notch design is a thing of past old phones used to come with notch but apple have removed a notch and comes with full bezel with clean fully covered screen wow what a brave and revolutionary move tech headlines filled with such praises. Now back to this apple knew they sucked designing and shot themselves in their foot and back to design board with regular design, anyway some Chinese cheap knockoffs still going to stick with a "follow apple designs" for a while.
