What we need?
The self-healing glass. It can be as hard as Diamond so that scratches will be hard to do on it. The same time, its crack resistance lessens, but since it is a self-healing glass, the glass will return to its original state.

nkwama, 19 Mar 2018With your teeth??? How the heck??? XDWell I had to go through hours of intense training ,its a real skill but I just kinda tap the surface with a tooth.
You do it in exactly the same way as if you were testing whether or not a ceramic antique for example, had undergone a repair in its lifetime. You can sense the difference in the surfaces.
All you need is teeth or even a tooth and a smartphone to conduct the test yourself. Try! It's fun!
Please post results.

I Really do not care about these durability ratings, the thing is, all these high tech devices are not designed to withstand misuse and abuse, owner have to be careful, if for some reason you need an ultra tough device, there are some options, as the cat series

One of the places that will get scratches (if you use the fingerprint scanner) is the material which covers the scanner. I say 'material' cos I've tested it with my *teeth and its different material from gorilla glass 5 that covers the remainder of the back. Well I think it is? Sure, they are only micro scratches but they are visible to the naked eye.
It doesn't bother me, but just wanted to point it out. As these tests are as much about entertainment as they are scientific. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the videos like the next man or woman. BUT they provide evidence of the obvious really.
I mean if I was asked in a questionnaire - 'What do you think will happen to any of the S8's if they were dropped from 6ft onto a very hard surface?'
Well I can tell you, and on heart, I'm sure I would answer along the lines of -"pretty messed up!"
*Please note there were scratches present before I conducted the teeth test!

ethereal, 19 Mar 2018Whats that gorilla glass bs that we are hearing from years ... moreSince GG3 there has been no change to the material, and you aren‘t able to „improve“ it in any way. If you make it harder, it gets more scratch resistant but cracks easier. If you make it softer, it gets more crack resistant but scratches easier. The only things you can do to improve durability is:
1. Make the glass thicker so that the scratches don‘t go through and crack that easy
2. make the phone lighter so that less force is applied on it if it drops.
Of course you can enhance the design or use a stronger aluminum frame, but that doesn’t change the durability of the glass.

'everyone wants to perform drop tests on them'
Sorry, Im possibly being a little overly pedantic here but I don't want to perform a drop test on them. Take me off that list! Dodgy research.
