So far Samsung has outed a microLED TV, and Apple has been rumored to want microLED panels for its smartwatches.

Viktorir, 22 Mar 2018I wonder why they've given up on Poled after just one phone... moreOLED is a show-off technology. It is excellent in so many ways, until the problem starts to occur and will require a replacement that costs almost just as much as a brand new iPhone X 256GB.

[deleted post]I'll be waiting for the comments of people when Sony announces the first ever microLED display smartphone.
I guess they'll critize it, like nobody needs it, or Samsung's screens are still good.

When Samsung does, people will loose their minds. DisplayMate would once again hail it as the best display ever on a smartphone (even though we all know that they're biased for not testing even 50% of smartphones).

I wonder why they've given up on Poled after just one phone, one really successful display, The lg v30 has what i would say the best smartphone display, which even goes brighter than s8.

I'm just happy that a new display technology can be used by more than one manufacturer and not crippled/stopped by patents, like SED :(

It os not easy to make it in small size. Also still very expensive.
JDI still earns a lot with their LCD. They will ship RGB oled next year.

LG are gonna put this on their smartphone? Hell no. They are the same company that are not putting oled on their G7 to cut costs when there are budget phones with oled screens now....

Because of the nature of the technology, microLED displays will not be available until 2020 or so.
I have some doubts, but I feel like Sony will be the first to use this technology on smartphones, given that they were also the one to first use it on TVs (they had a big 8K screen at CES 2017 while Samsung just announced their "The Wall" this CES 2018).
