At least so far we have Nokia, Sony and Samsung who have not copied the others with the notch madness!

But the notch is a failure, something gross.
Still, they did copy it. This and the camera sensors position.
Why they just can't do their own thing ?
Do they really believe that a dulled soul-less apple copy will sell better than something genuine ?
Nowadays everyone wants something unique, something different, but phones makers keeps doing all the same stuff. I don't get it. Could you answer this ? Please, l'll really like to ear someone's opinion on the subject. Cause i don't f****g get it.

I play games and watch movies 80% of the time and the other 20% would be web browsing and some WhatsApp.
Therefore it's better for me to use a large smartphone having a regular 16:9 screen and having thin bezels.
I did actually try a phone having an 18:9 screen and whilst is looked fantastic, many movies gave me black borders. Some games and applications were not fully compatible and when forcing full screen the image was distorted and of poor quality.
I immediately sold the device and went back to the regular 16:9.
Also remember many movies especially on YouTube are recorded in 16:9 so it would be wiser for me to stick to this in the meantime.

18:9 is useless and we are unable to use full screen for movies and some apps/games.
We can crop but this leads to a distorted image and in some cases poor image quality.
18:9 is too new and many movies are not even compatible. 99% of YouTube is not compatible and you'll get the ugly black borders.
Best way is to get a large phone having a 16:9 screen and minimal bezels.
Example, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro has a 6'' 16:9 screen and very thin bezels. Screen to body ratio is 81.6% and when viewing any media, no ugly black bars, no notch and no distortion.

But if you are mostly using phone for social media and internet then because of notch you are getting bigger screen. You can't remove black status bar line from screen (plus above you always have bazel with camera and other stuff).

You actually mean SMALLER? When playing any movies the so called ''notch'' cuts a portion making it look like $hit.
I'd rather have thick bezels which at least has full screen when playing media rather than a notch and black bars around it....

Its a trend of the industry to copy .
Just after Huawei created a lot of hype with dual camera, all brands including Apple did it .
So, why when a Chinese brand follows a suite is copy and not for Apple or samsung . Why always design is everything. Look beneath and see what it has . By the way Samsung started the copying game first and profit they made from it made them such Giant...

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2018It is only fanboys thing...The notch is a goop in the screen, breaks the silhouette of the display. And the bigger screen ratio is a LIE. Use a 16: 9 ratio with 5.8" with small bezels and the result is a bigger screen area, better design, and without artificial black bars.

if you are then I want you to know I like Huawei
it is the best phone selling company in my country (since we have the 9th s*it_est economy in the world not unless you are rich you can't buy a phone from a non_Chinese brand like Apple or Samsung or SONY)
any how I just HATE the character_less pathetic brands that copies anything they see tranding until it loses interest (Samsung,s edge screen_Huawei,s duel camera_LGs 18:9 screen now Apple notch ) they're waiting for Apple to drop the notch design just like how LG 18:9 screen lost attention
it could survive this like Samsungs edge
