TL:DR
You can fix crappy software and UI (on Android) by installing custom ROMs or rooting your Android device.
On the other hand, you can't fix a crappy camera (hardware) unless you open up the phone and replace the camera module (with a compatible one). Good luck with that.

Tough choice as I do allot of photography with my phone (to lazy to use my dslr) so image quality is important, but then I edit the hell out of all my photos with numerous apps and I can turn a average image into a great image (well I like to think anyway). Therefore performance as I don't want to deal with an unusable phone for the next 2 years.

Perhaps performance that is GOOD ENOUGH and camera that is GOOD ENOUGH, depending on how expensive said device is. Something like Nokia 6(2018) with Snapdragon 630, perhaps Google cam.hdr+ port probably fits the bill.perfectly. That or RN5P.

how can your camera perform better if the phone cpu/gpu is weak? So in the end, we need a faster phone.

What is with this retarded debate and polls GSMarena? Of course users want both and they can have both. It’s not something to compromise. If that’s the case why not ask people whether your legs or arms have more priority? do u just need your left eye or right, left kidney or right? Left testical or right teastical? seriously what kind of dumb idea is this...

Performance and Experience of course. I bought a phone with camera and not a camera with a phone.

Performance all the way. Camera can always be replaced by a DSLR. Let's admit that battery life of phones, even flagship phones are not even at par as the old phones had(looking back at Nokia days).

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2018808 incapable of processing photos.. Whoa.. Wait a minute..... more"808 is equipped with a dedicated image processor "
His main argument is still right. Performance is needed for a great camera experience.
Shit performance = shitty camera. So i agree with him. Performance comes first.

r33fd, 01 Apr 2018A phone with a bad camera can still have great performance ... more808 incapable of processing photos.. Whoa.. Wait a minute.. I'll have to correct you there.. 808 is equipped with a dedicated image processor and it is capable of processing all 41MP in less than 2 seconds and oversampled 8MP less than 0.5 seconds.. 1020 lacked the dedicated image processor thus take longer than 5 seconds for any image processed.. The 808 can process 41MP images faster than SD845 of today as SD845 only supports up to 30MP

good things that I like to tinker with my phones and enable good stuff that was disabled by oem like cam2 api, and then use google camera mod to achieve photo that has great, pixel-like quality.

The Scientist Pigeon, 01 Apr 2018Those who select Camera are not real smartphone users, whic... moreWell actually the real smartphone users don't care about benchmarks either, as long as the phone is perfect for multitasking and nowadays any Snapdragon 625 device with 4GB of ram is enough. So a real smart(phone), power user cares about functionality, practicality, convenience and perfection in software and hardware details (Which is many more things than just a camera).

For me,
Battery is one of the most important. Without big battery, those fast CPU & good photo is useless.
I really hope there will be 5000maH flagship device.

In the last 2 years, as long as you had enough RAM, then performance was fine even on budget phones. Camera is the last feature that separates flagship phones!

AnonD-735540, 01 Apr 2018why i choose if i can possibly have both ?You can't have both since camera on smartphones were overrated. I would choose performance rather than expensive phones with less capability overcome the quality of DLSR or FUJI. Applications can change the quality of a photo that matches the high end phones. So, why choose both if you can have performance that works best.

What slowdowns?
Unless you are buying a budget phone, what serious problems are you seeing?
An app starts a fraction of a second faster?
Scrolling could be a bit smoother?
Does that matter all that much really?
But a crap photo is a real material failure.
