Bobby_gBG, 03 Apr 2018For you time is much money, for other people - there are to... morei kinda agree as an office goer spending time on flash sales is not an option but for students it may be possible. i earn enough to afford a flagship but xiaomi products are definitely targeted at people who are school or college kids or low income groups or secondary devices or cheap gifts(my case). i guess xiaomi fans are liking the flash sale shenanigan after all or should i say miui forum guys. but since i can buy whatever i want so i don't need miui forum members to tell me whether to buy a xiaomi or buy a flagship (btw i do own a pixel xl and a samsung note 5) with twice or thrice the price or just for being able to afford one.

yeah yeah flash sale sold out within 1 pico second and then the bragging on social media. the reason why i have stopped touching these flash sale brands. time is money and these shenanigans waste a lot of time. i give you my money you give my device of choice. no nah never they will make sure you waste your month or two masturbating to the thoughts of buying their device.

the part that you consider "hype" is a result of the business model being adopted
and HYPE is a by-product. Why hype? If its a shit product, HYPE would not even exist.
The reason this model is used is to deliver high quality, innovative products
that pushes the boundaries of the said industry(providing insane competition) at an affordable price point
There is still alot for me to learn about business, but with this model I see many upsides, and that one downside you pointed out

flash sale for xiaomi is all about - lets stock some under 500 units every week and hype them up on social media, actually sold out few hundreds and brag on the media and social media that 'we sold out 500 million phones within few minutes and that's a record in this *insert some country name*'... more hits on their websites, more delusional numbers as the amount of phones they sold.
marketing gimmick and fooling the masses, most corporates that sell goods never give a shit about customers, they only care about being popular and only themselves in the end.
