AnonD-379125, 11 Apr 2018As a free user of spotify, I dont mind the ads. But please.... moreI don't blame them. I listened to music for a long time on my PC. Then I started to want to have some music whilst wandering the streets. Mobile restrictions actually made me become a subscriber. If PC had the same restrictions then it'd be too much. Apple's got a bigger variety of music (although, I rarely feel left out on Spotify), so I would have chosen them long time ago. Now I was able for as much time as I wanted to enjoy free services, get used to the platform, learn to appreciate it. The way it's now, it's perfect. I believe that artists have to be paid, especially my favourite ones.

Anonymous, 11 Apr 2018Indian people don't believe in paying for non-tangible stuf... moreApples selling Apple music with a family plan for 200 inr (little over 3 $) and making a lot of cash. They don't even have a free mode. So a similar strategy by Spotify could succeed.
Then you have Prime music, which comes with your prime subscription.(1000 inr per year, about 15 $. Then you have Gaana, Saavn, etc which all have good sales in India.

Music is dead to me ever since the mid-2000's and if I want to listen to a specific album or song I'll just download it directly to my Android phone without having to worry about data charges, shuffle mode, inability to skip tracks and so on.

My bet is the improvement is to push ads via streaming servers so they dont loose money from people that use ad blockers

What I want is to be able to add more songs/albums to my collection. This is a ridiculous limitation for a "premium service"...
If I had known of this limitation prior to working on my collection/playlists, I would have gone another way..

AnonD-694029, 11 Apr 2018It has already leaked countless times. It's just gsmarena.c... moreI FREAKING HOPE SO

But I'm skeptical, I think all the "leaks" are really just them inquiring about how much demand or interest there is/will be and I feel that as much as I'd like Lossless Spotify... I am others like me are still too small of a niche to be profitable. But maybe it's both, maybe they will try to make their free product more competitive in helps to gain more subscribers to offset launching a costly Lossless service

Indian market is unfortunately a loss-making proposition despite the large numbers.

Android, 11 Apr 2018Yeah, free unlimited music and high quality... and no shuff... moreMusic is unlimited anyway and don't care about quality.

But that shuffle mode is just a useless limitation from a technological point of view. Their servers have the same workload regardless of the music that runs as long as music runs.
Plus, they already let tablet users use the app properly, so why would it be any different for smartphones. It's literally the same apk. It just functions differently on different devices.

The shuffle mode on phones it's literally meant to annoy users and does not provide Spotify with direct benefit other than it is annoying for free users, so they are tempted to upgrade.

I agree better quality or downloads can be considered premium as they require more data processed by servers, but shuffle mode is just a "designed annoyance". Such things should not exist imo.

It has already leaked countless times. It's just gsmarena.com that fails to understand what Spotify is gonna announce on that magical day. There have been reports even on some german sites. SPOTIFY IS GONNA ANNOUNCE THEIR LOSSLESS STREAMING SERVICE AS PER THE LEAKS AND REPORTS!

techperson211, 11 Apr 2018Off topic, I thought Apple music will squash SPOTIFY? guess... moreSpotify is pretty much the only music service that has a full free on demand tier on desktop and tablet.
No other company will come close to Spotify number of users until they offer something similar or Spotify gives up the great free tier, which I hope they never do. Always admired them for how they stood up for their users against greedy Taylor and now she's back anyway.

They really should release it in India. By 2020, India is expected to have 220 million Streaming music users, if they don't get on the scene by then they'll lose their chance.
More services for free users sounds awesome, but it will definitely piss of the paid subscribers....

techperson211, 11 Apr 2018Off topic, I thought Apple music will squash SPOTIFY? guess... morefirst point. Android user here.
the Apple Music service is amazingly successful (I am among the first to sign up once it came to my country) it works well and with something like 170m users (I think) Spotify is absulutely squashed.
since the UI of the A.M. is terrible on the android system. I leave that to my work device. (iPhone 8) and listen to spotify on my main driver. (I'm premium btw)

I would like to see them remove the useless shuffle mode.
I get that they want people to buy premium but Spotify free is just unusable on mobile because of shuffle.
If shuffle mode was not a thing, many people would not have installed mod apps that also block ads and cut from Spotify earnings.

Spotify is a huge success. Steve Jobs were right about subscription was not a good idea. But it was before 2010 where internet was damn slow and so on. But now, internet is everywhere, streaming music is now able to be done.

I paid $2 per month using student package and it is really a good deal. Apple actually has simillar offer, slightly pricier around 50c, but i stay with spotify because it is simply cheaper :v. Yea, you know, student.
