This only appeals to Indians and Chinese people because of their cost and resemblance to the real deal.

i really dont think edge design is somewhat spectacular and beautiful. i think samsung should focus to make phones with focus on functionality more. with the same price, nowadays customer can choose other OEM with better phones.

              AnonD-558092, 19 Apr 2018Checking on Sammobile.com, this is indeed for J3 with Sprea... moreThen that's a geat news for J3 (2016) users :)
But question from this article still remainds..
Why Samsung posts lowest ever fourth quarter in China?
Why Samsung is no longer in top 5 OEMs in China for sales
Why Samsung on 2th bigest smartphone market (india) where it was no 1 in past 6 years, is now no2.
              Whats a reason for that.
I think Redmi Note 4 was a best seling Xiaomi device in India for 2017, and that device is not was cheaper than this J3 (2016) or even J3 (2017) so i guess is not for the low price. Maybe people get bored of Galaxy lineup, maybe is time for some other OEMs to do Samsung, what Samsung did to Nokia in 2009-2011. Especially Huawei who floods smartphone market with every week from beginining of 2018, every week new phone from Huawei, or Nova, or Honor line up.. Samsung with J series it was available on market in april 2015, 2016,2017, and now 2018, april is almost gone, but yet no new phones (J4,J6, J8, J8 plus) from Sammy.. I guess they give up on that low end mid range, like Sony, HTC, LG, but problem is, that J series is the most selling Samsung series since 2015, first generation of J. And maybe thats a reason why Samsung sales going down, on this two bigest smartphone market. :(

I'm sure it had nothing to do with having the worst budget and midrange offerings in the market (okay, second worse *HTC). I'm surprised they're anywhere near the top in India where budget phones are more popular. The J and A series charge more for worse specs (not to mention a laggy UI). Awful stuff

AnonD-558092, 19 Apr 2018J3 2016 is on March 2018 patch. Depends on your carrier An... moreYes you're right about that. And thats a reason why most Samsung low end and mid range phones does not get security updates every month or every 3 months, because they need newer Android vesion to Samsung sent to get security patch, and Samsung does not do that since 2010, or maybe, just maybe only one in one and a half year. J series is good example. J (2016) was on 6.0.1 pre installed (J3 5.1.1.), and these phones is on market since april 2016.. Samsung sent Nougat to these phones (again not on J3 eu version that will be stuck on 5.1.1 forever) in december 2017, but not 7.1.1, or 7.1.2... 7.0.. and Nougat, 7.0 Android version is from august 2016 :)

So J series from 2017 will get Oreo (8.0) maybe in the end of this year.. And with security patch for that month, maybe december. That's Samsung strategy for low end and mid range phones in last 8 years.. And like i was say thats not a reason why in 2017 and in 2018 samsung sales in China goes down. Reason is others OEMs, because Xiaomi in 4q 2017 was sell more phones than Apple, Samsung, Huawei combined in same period. And this is still not a problem, because Samsung is still no1 phone manufacturer globally in sales. But without phones in that segment, who know who will be no1 next year.. Huawei maybe.

And MIUI is only an overlay. A given MIUI version may run on Oreo devices and KitKat devices simultaneously, unlike Samsung Experience which runs over only one version of Android

I thing Redmi Note 3 pro have january 2018 pach, and that phone is from same year even older than Samsung J3 (2016) and was similarly priced but with way better specs than J3 (2016). Redmi Note 4 from february 2017 have march 2018 security pach, Redmi 5/Plus from december 2017 have march sp, and MIUI is also, like Touchwiz, or Grace UX, or Samsung Experience 8.1-9 custom rom. But i think thats not a reason why Samsung is no longer in top 5 OEMs in China (in 2013-2015 was no1).. I think thats for Huawei, Oppo, vivo and Xiaomi phones and for low end to mid segment. Now in 2018, only Huawei-Honor-Nova have 15 phones from that low end to mid segment, and Samsung have zero. A8 (2018) is from 2017 and even now is priced more than S8 lol
That a reason why Samsung decresing sales in China, and India (two most bigest market in the world). But in flagships segments, S series is one of the best in Android world especially S9 plus, really great smartphone.

I think one of the major reasons for this has to be the notorious update releases scheduled by Samsung. People invest lots and LOTS of money to get the best features out of their devices (for practicality as well as social status) but they do not get the fastest (read best) in terms of software updates. Many phones which are way way cheaper than Samsung flagships (viz. Nokia 6, 8, OG Pixels, etc) and some midrangers get better platform and security updates. So what they actually get by paying a premium when buying Samsung phones are impracticality (compared to others in terms of security and platform updates) and shame (having a relatively dates version of updates than peers).

Personally I have long been a Samsung fan, but by the way things are going in the Samsung world, I am not surprised nor saddened by this development. Not shocking if Apple prevails over Samsung (not a Fruit lover btw). Not surprising if Chinese brands are taking over, especially in China

For me.. 15 months ago I used to have galaxy S6 edge, paid flagship grade money for that mobile still I was never satisfied as battery was so bad and phone was so laggy even with regular apps like facebook. Now I am using Mi A1, paid half the money and still this one is so smooth and I feel my every penny is well utilized.
So point here is that Samsung doesn't offer value for money, when you buy a overpriced Samsung phone and still get lags and poor performance you feel like cheated, same time brands like xiaomi or Honor offers great mobiles in half the money.
Again for high segment phones, Samsung is again so overpriced and for that range people often buy iPhone and other people prefer OnePlus as they are cheaper and as good as Samsung S8/S9 line up.
Samsung should reduce prices and bring more models in 230$-380$ range. Like S8, they should bring phones with full bod display in low range also, current 5.5" phones like J7 are really huge and Samsung designers be like who care about J series, lets put all over effort in S series.
