That Samsung Galaxy S9+ mini will actually be called Dream-Lite

19 April 2018
That's an unusual change in naming scheme for Samsung.

Compared to last year's 835 it's CPU wld match but GPU wise it's way behind and it's not gonna be any cheaper than 660. Histroically whenever Qualcomm makes a proper upper mid range chip it always fails to gain popularity. Right from the beginning the original SD 600 was not really used as a higher mid range chip. Sure it was used in early 2013 flagships but that was a stop gap for 800. For almost 2 years SD 400 dominated anything from $150 to $400. Then they released 808 and that wasn't as popular as either 810 or 615 despite both of those being plagued by issues. Same with Snapdragon 652, apart from Chinese manufacturers nobody released a phone with it. And when they did (like Samsung C series) it was much later once 660 was already announced.

Athull, 20 Apr 2018No longer competitive? Even now SD 660 devices r rare. And ... moreIf SD660 had really competitive performance and price, we would have seen much more new phone models with SD 660 inside, But we did not. That means it is not so competitive for its price. SD660 has inferior CPU performance and much worse GPU to SD820 (lower Geekbench scores), two years old flagship. SD660 barely competes with SD810, 3 year old flagship chip that suffered from various performance problems (heat and throttling) and was particularly unpopular.

And it will be leapfrogged soon by SD710, new midi-range king made in newer semiconductor process. Unless Qualcomm drastically lowers price of SD660, phone vendors simply will ignore and skip SD660 and go straight to SD710 for mid-range phones for 2nd half of this year. SD710 has better performance and GPU and lower power consumption.

It is too late and too lukewarm to release new mid-range phone based on SD660. at 2nd half of this year, at just below flagship price range. It should be offered at more affordable price range approaching to budget phone price to compensate lost opportunity.

And there is no mid range device that has a better CPU than 660. So it's far from being outdated. And knowing how SD 660 wasn't really popular I won't bet on SD 670/710 being popular either especially not by the end of this year.

              Look like Huawei......

The "dream" was the codename for s8 guys

Snapdragon 660 and FHD+ display? Then it is not premium phone. It is mid-range phone like Galaxy A8 (2018) with Exynos 7885 (similar performance with SD660) and FHD+ display. And will it be released in China exclusively? Then there was Galaxy C10 model that was rumored early last year as China exclusive model but canceled later.

And SD660 is no longer so competitive in mid-range performance. It will be overshadowed soon by rumored SD710 (was SD670 with 2 big core + 6 little core) with Adreno 515, which will be used much cheaper Xioami "Sirius" phone.
