US Samsung Galaxy S II comes tonight, likely with a larger screen

30 August, 2011
We'll be there in New York to meet the US batch of Galaxy S II smartphones, quite possibly with 4.5-inch screens.

Something I am not understanding here, unless I mistaken. This device has the same physical size as the 4.3 inch version, so how come people who handle that fine say 4.5 inch is too big!?

Replace the logo with Nokia and I'll buy it. I can't wait for Nokia to start rolling out phones with 4+ inch screens. Until then, I'll be complaining that the screen is too big although it doesn't really bother me since I have no intentions of buying it on the first place. I just want to complain for no reason at all. When Nokia starts using 4+ inch screens then I'll stop complaining and start praising Nokia for it.

Samsung needs to get back to equiping their phones with smaller screens. 3.5 inch is the perfect size just like on my N8. Samsung needs to slow down and wait for Nokia to start using better tech then start the race. Samsung has an unfair advantage as they make their own parts. Boo Samsung, boo!

AnonD-2000, 30 Aug 2011Agree with you totally. I Owen the Samsung Galaxy S2 which ... moreyes I know. Can't imagine someone holding it close to their ear. Its like putting an ipad 2 to your ear and having a conversation. I own a Samsung S2 and the screen is great for viewing but making it slightly larger is like owning a world war 2 marine's telephone backpack. The battery life drains rapidly too. When I surf the net for 1 hour its taken half the battery already.

I Owen the Samsung Galaxy S2 which I am very happy with 4.3 inch display. It does feel little large so, cannot imagine holding the 4.5 inch. As you mention Battery life on Galaxy not impressive so by having larger screen not even shorten the battery life but also resolution would not be as good.

4.5 inch is now close to Tab Galaxy 7 inch.

All this talk about 4.3 to 4.5 inch screens being too big is all mumbo jumbo. Let's face it, if you haven't experienced superamoled or superamoled + you wouldn't be cryin about such pity things because the more the better. Its not like they're giving you a lame 4.5 inch e-ink display now are they?

Can't wait for a size bump from my 4.3" Droid X which is still a lttle too small for full-sized
Web browsing. I could fit a 5 or 6 inch phone in my pocket or belt
clip or even use my bluetooth earpiece rather than put those microwaves
too near my head. I may get a tab also for reading or Web
but I want a phone I carry with me with full Web access for
most of the time. NYC has LTE and with dual core at 1.5GHz
I can't wait for the first one. Was dissappointed waiting on the droid
Bionic delay and 'new' low specs, Vigor's 4.3" doesn't provide aa screen
size bump for me and Nexus Prime is vaporware for now so Sammy
is looking like a best bet right now. I'm on Verizon wireless.

The screen is already big so by increasing the size of the screen it makes it look like a mini tablet. Battery life is still going to decrease rapidly. Also the Samsung Galaxy s2 LTE is coming out. Is there any point in buying a phone with a larger screen? Its like fitting your tablet into your pocket.

I'll have to see this phone in person. I used to want the Dell Streak until I demoed it in person. That 5 inch tabphone is GINORMOUS!! 4.5 May be my max acceptable screen size for a phone. I'll be watching the event.

If you don't like it, don't buy it and stick to fiddly little phones that are the right size for you.

The essence of a smartphone is also for portability and ease of use. if the phone doesnt fits your poket anymore then its no longer smart. Sammy make fools out of the US consumers. blinding with hardware specs and big screens . . wat a stupid move. . Sammy phones sucks and build is made of cheap plastic quality and jurassic cameras with very weak flash. Without Android Samsung is nothing. they are not good phone manufacturer, not good in design and built. If a phone size is 4.5, its no longer a phone its a TAB!

they messed things up with the Galaxy SII, its phucking huge. It looks really strange when people are holding it. Why the f*** did they make it even bigger? lol i would buy this phone in a heartbeat for its camera and screen if they hadn't made it so bloody big, 4" screen was the sweet spot.

I've see people in my country walking around with the 4.3" version and they look like complete twats. The screen is no brighter than my N8, which costs half the price of this laggy POS.

Well, if you ask me, 4,3'' is hotter than 4,5'' because it is supposed to be a MOBILE phone, not a brick! Personally, I wouldn't buy anything larger than 4''.
