Critical vulnerability in Nvidia's Tegra X1 SoC can be used to hack Nintendo Switch

What makes the bug critical and worrisome is that it can't be patched through a downloadable update.

It was only a matter of time since Tegra X1 bootROM leaked on April 23rd. The Fusée Gelée vulnerability uses the SoC's USB recovery mode to bypass bootROM protections and gain access to it. Then, a separate bug discovered in the Tegra X1 bootROM allows the execution of arbitrary code while in RCM mode, which was intended for flashing Tegra based devices and recovering the bricked ones. Nintendo is already at work, integrating an updated version of Tegra X1 (214) codenamed 'Mariko', named after Wolverine's girlfriend, Mariko Yashida. But, the 15 million or so units out in the wild cannot be patched, as the vulnerability is hardware based, and is not exposed to the software stack.

    And having security breaches swings both sides: can be because of cost control or because there's always someone trying to breach in a new way.

      Even if its not exactly their fault but nvidia, they are not some small company that cant afford tests, better software work or getting WAY better hardware for their main device.
      They could get better, newer and more future proof specs for Switch but they decide to go cheap and easy.
