          Its a useless gimmick.

Meh, 3D Touch is merely restricting ancient android functions to the iPhone 6S and later. Literally EVERYTHING it offers is doable without specialized hardware, including:

            - 3D touch keyboard to start scrolling your cursor: that's simply an option in keyboard apps like GBoard, no nonsense 3D touch required.
            - App shortcuts: that's simply a short press and hold on the home screen launcher icon.
            - Peak and pop: That's merely floating windows that's been on Android since forever.
            - etc.

It's just another gimmick crapple is using to justify milking their iSheep to the last drop...and the sheeple love it.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2018Yep 600$ is low end in Apple world!Your point? $40,000 is low end in the world of Mercedes and BMW as well.

I use 3D Touch a lot, especially for placing the cursor around when using the keyboard. I would be okay with not having it though, especially on a 6.1" device that's rumored to be only 549$.

For app shortcuts, settings shortcuts, for switching apps, quickly deleting single picture in photo app etc. It's a very useful feature that I would miss a lot if they'd get rid of it in future iPhones.

No wonder, that 3D touch can be obtained just by software tweak that will detect touched area, after all our fingers are not made from brick and when we touch screen harder we increase touched surface area, most of time even in apple system it use just two stages: normal touch and hard touch for additional features.
Just implement it to system and tell that app devs and they will use it without any useless hardware. Actually some apps have that already, especially in settings when you just tap for longer on something and popup will show up that tell you what that setting doing.
And "magic-ultra-fancy" vibrations in that 3D touch? Who need that...

Increasing the price is a well known "feature" for iphones. Some apple customers love the increase price feature and use it daily.

If the touch module is in the glass, won't it effect the touchscreen when the screen crack

And, the "touchless gesture" i guess it something similar to the mutual capacitance touchscreen, where it can detect finger hovering or pointing on the glass,
