I think this will be a good phone. The IP4 was a pretty good phone and the specs of this aren't too far off. Plus from what I read, Windows Phone isn't much of a memory hog. The 703 has the iphone 4 right in its cross hairs. It doesn't have retina, but sports a decent screen and will most likely include corning, a polarizing layer and cbd and it does sport a bigger screen, same ram and possibly a 1ghz chip. Imagine that. Nokia's gunning for the Iphone 4 with a mid range device! It may not dominate, but it'll definitely push other manufacturers into stepping up their offerings for the mid range. And that...that's not a bad thing..

LinuxUser, 05 Sep 2011If you read carefully, I said "If so". This clear... morethat showed that you never tried any of wp7 phone and compare using only the specs.
HTC desire and HTC trophy also have similiar specs, but you can see how much the different between the two in term of speed and slickness
yes security also important and are you serious telling me that android more secured than wp7??
wp7 lack the security on what? apps like whatsapp even have difficulty to built using secured API on wp7 and waiting for mango to fix that because the over-security platform not allowed 3rd party apps to read the user contacts.
wp7 lack class of what? it has it slickness, it has the new concept for integrating thing for the user and make it all easy to use, it optimized the battery usage, even the power hungry SOC of snapdragon can still reach one day usage with 1300mah battery. it have better keyboard on par with iOS, if you only judge the UI, you will failed to notice what the smart concept behind wp7 OS.
yes it will be great if nokia come with big bang, super amoled plus with CBD and 3D glasses free, nfc, 64gb or 128gb or 512gb storage or why not make it 1terra, 24mp camera or make it 64mp so nobody will complain, tripple xenon flash to please the camera centric mind,2 microusb for mouse and keyboard,5-1 stereo system on the phone speakers, 2400mah battere but as thin as papper,MHL link to play 1080p HD movie to your tv, 2gb ram or 8gb ram to show off infront of laptop user and quadcore CPU that with 16core GPU that will kick PS3 and xbox to their grave, that will be a dream cause you can brag to anyone about your insane spec in your smartphone, but who gonna buy this if the price more than 1500$ ?? not everyone a rich kid.
i will amaze and admire the specs and say wow wow its beautiful beast etc but in real life i will never buy it. i dont even buy n8 because the price is to high for an OS that can do so little compared to other OSes.
releasing a mid tier phone to be their frontliner is SMART move, they can taste the market, the customer will be willing to throw some money to try it too and not to scared to try something that they haven't know, dont forget most of nokia fans are symbian user, they prefer megapixel more than powerfull OS.but once they try how easy wp7 than they will love it,i think thats the plan in elop head, and i think he really smart.
so i'm sure i represent the consumer point of view, consumer with money and want something worth with their money. if you read gsma you will eventually see that mid-end smartphone is the backbone income for most of the companies in smartphone businesses.
just take a look at SE strategy failed, released ARC with SGS II price, sold a singlecore phone as high as the price of a dualcore phone who gonna buy it? yeah the fansboy will but there are not enough fansboy to turn their minus to plus on their financial report.
it will be the same for nokia, if nokia hoping there will be enough fansboy will buy their high-end wp7 with high price, it will be disaster.
remember nokia is in financial recovery, many of nokia consumer leaving and dont trust their brand anymore if they have strong presence like samsung, they can easily move without noticing the mid-end consumers, hence even samsung knew it will be stupid to released their first bada phone with high-end price. cause no body will buy it. no body willing to spend hundred dollars for something they dont know what they gonna get.
so i think you should come out and light on your cave a little to see what smartphone market really mean, you have to see it as common people consumer not the rich kid consumer

huhu, 04 Sep 2011haha are you living in the cave??
compare your mid end H... moreIf you read carefully, I said "If so". This clearly indicates that I am not assuming it is a high end device. Secondly, I own an HTC Desire, and the two devices looked pretty similar to me spec wise.
Thirdly, speed is not the only crucial element in an OS. Security is also key, which is something that Windows lacks.
And now for the most important part. I AM NOT ONLY TALKING ABOUT WINMO AND iOS, I AM REFERRING TO THEIR COMPUTER COUNTERPARTS. If you are honest with yourself, I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that Windows lacks class and looks generally tacky. Like I said, it is also not particularly safe either and lags on a computer.
All of that aside, its still a pretty poor debut for the new Nokia Windows range, no matter what you say about market. It would have been nice if they entered with a bang.
So maybe you should come out of your little market based cave and think like a consumer.

What people on this site (And other sites) don't seem to realize about hardware is a few facts:
Android NEEDS beefy specs to run _almost_ as smooth as WP7 or Ios simply because Android lacks basic things like Hardware GUI Acceleration.
WP7 wouldn't benefit from having two cores, because there's not much that can get faster than it already is.
Games don't benefit from faster CPU's or more cores, because they use the GPU (Graphics Processing Units), and the GPU in WPhones are already quite good.
I recommend that everybody that ditches a phone simply from a tech-sheet go out and try a WP7-phone and see how a properly built cellphone OS should work...

LinuxUser, 01 Sep 2011Hahaha. Is that seriously the best a Nokia-WinMo partnershi... morehaha are you living in the cave??
compare your mid end HTC (android?) with windows phone 7
not with windows mobile 6.5
wp7 just as fast as iOS, android is my fave but in terms of speed it still lag behind wp7 and iOS.
please try wp7 first and compare it usability and stop bring your assumption in here.
703 is not a flagship and it is a smart move using mid-end phone to introduce nokia with wp7 phone as smart as samsung move with bada.
it will be failed if nokia try to introduce their new OS switch with a high end phone cost 600$ more.
it will bring more revenue and advantage for them if they have more stuff in mid-end to battle with mid-end android or iphone 3 and 3GS with this new OS, same smart strategy with bada OS.
read the market and be realistic that what elop vision to help nokia.
btw if you compare HTC radar with 703 specs, the new HTC mid-end with wp7 is still loose to 703, read it slowly and you will see tv-out and LED backlit IPS LCD in 703 specs vs only DLNA and SLCD in radar and dont forget with the weight and design advantage and maybe free ovi map navigation to lure more people in.
so, it is a great move by nokia. i'm not nokia fans, or any other OS and manufactures, but i think the people who said it will failed or beg for flagship or meego just dont understand market strategy at the moment

[deleted post]Like where? I live in an African country and I don't see much of Nokia and Symbian anymore.
Does the fact that Nokia has practically abandoned Symbian and opted to work with Microsoft not say anything to you?
Personally I think they must just develop Meego.

AnonD-16342, 01 Sep 2011hahaha.. comparing a sub 150 euro phone with Apple's iphone... moreBy the way, if you read carefully, you will see that I compared WINDOWS TO APPLE, NOT Nokia and Apple. Secondly, I am not a Samsung fan. Once again if you actually processed what you read you would see I own an HTC.
Lastly, if that is to be the flagship then yes, I stand by what I said. A phone of this rumoured spec is no longer flagship material. My HTC is MIDDLE OF THE RANGE and compete with this thing.

Lewis, 01 Sep 2011Who cares about the hardware spec? Whats important is how s... morePerfect!!!..
I doubt a little bit about the sleekness of the WP7 on the hydra.... if it would have been the Meego or the Symbian, I would have already certified it...Those 2 systems along with the iOS are THE MOST efficient OS in the planet.....Not quite sure about windows though....and Android is fragmented OS...
The lens system(Carl Zeiss Tessar) that they are going to use on the Hydra is same as the N8, so we can hope it delivers stellar performance....
Adding another thing for the imagery department.. it also very important what the algorithm they use for post processing of the image..(converting RAW to jpeg for example)......
it can be hard processing(adding lot of sharpness, huge amount of Noise correction, color correction) which would make the images vibrant but with very low details and "REAL" photographic quality(like Samsung).... or I think(I pray) they would use the same algo they are using in the N8 which would produce natural colors, with a lot of details....

Hahaha. Is that seriously the best a Nokia-WinMo partnership can do. If so, it's just PATHETIC. My MID RANGE HTC can top those specs.
Seriously, Nokia must just ditch Windows and develop Meego. Apart from the lack in hardware, Windows is just a horrid OS. It is slow, unsafe and looks terrible. It is simply MILES BEHIND the likes of Apple, and that's coming from somebody who DOESN'T EVEN LIKE Apple.

Who cares about the hardware spec? Whats important is how slick the whole user experience is.
It wouldnt matter if it had a 100mhz 486 processor in it as long as the exeperience was smooth and resposnive.
As stated also, MP means nothing, if its a top notch sensor and lens then thats fine.
