Could this device have the heavily rumoured Surge S2 chipset?

Because, otherwise, why would Mi enter a new naming series for this device which can easily pass off as a Redmi Note or so?

Samsung,Huawei now xiaomi are releasing phones with almost same specs and design

Wrong move again for xiaomi for the camera placement. Why they did'nt follow the mi6 and mi note 3 camera placement? why Xiaomi? Why you copy Iphone X camera placement? Don't tell me you will follow the notch as well.

Xiaomi keeps pumping out this Same'ish looking models just like what Samsung did years ago.

from zero to hero, 28 Apr 2018Nobody get point of this, also same goes for Mi 6X. For th... moreYeah benefit is type-c but negative is that no 3.5mm jack for the Mi 6X (Mi A2)
I have used Leagoo Kiicaa Mix for 5 months and well it has flaws a lot like the speaker for calls are top corner so you need to answer with left hand and hold it in a weird way and hope you can listen anything. And well market isnt full of these type-c headphones if they want to go with that and lose 3.5mm

This is going to be the next best seller.

SvetAndroida says Xiaomi Store officially revealed this phone (at least for Czech Republic). It shouldn't be considered as a leak and they won't get into any trouble.
People can see this phone in this particular store but it's not ready for sale.

For this one, if is plastic phone, just no, because even Xiaomi have phones from that segment (Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus) with alu back. Microusb today in 2018, yep its the shame really.

For Mi 6X, problem is that there is better phone 'all rounded' phone and its new model, and its on the market, and it have 8.1 out of box, also. Note 5 (Pro). Bigger battery, 3.5mm audio jack, no boring skin (stock) but with Treble it can be, cameras same.. Also their mistake is that "Mi" 6X looks similar to "Redmi" Note 5. Maybe was better to that Mi 6X phone, that is more similar in design to something like Mix 2(s) becausw of "Mi" Yes processor is better, but 636 is just fine. Only benefit is type c.

So who know what Xiaomi does with this flooading new-same phones..

I dont get the point of this. From the specs it's same as Redmi 5 plus. Maybe camera difference but thats the only thing i can see about it. Would of been nice if it have type-c with 3.5mm at least then i would be interested. I have loads of choices for old microusb devices that have 3.5mm. Not so much for type-c and 3.5mm. There are even 100 euro phones that have quad core MTK in them and have type-c with 3.5mm and dual camera. They are not the best on the market but still good enough to get so much out of 100 euro phones.

Mid range phones must embrace the new USB C 1.0 so that it will not be hard for us to charge backwards and so on.

It may be confusing, but if their end goal is to sell as many phones as possible, perhaps it makes sense to offer as many options as possible for different market segments.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2018May be it will replace Redmi Note 5A or Redm Y1.If this is plastic back, then yes, this is upgrade over Note 5a (Y1 Lite in India), also plastic phone just with lower SD 425 quad core SoC made on 28nm.

This phone has mixed specs between recent Redmi 5 (SD430 AP and HD+ display) and its h higher sibling Redmi Plus ( SD625 AP and FHD+ display, Redmi 5 Plus in China, Redmi Note 5 in India): SD 625 AP and HD+ 18:9 display. But it has dual camera that the Redmi 5 Plus don't have. So price and marketing position also be similar to Redmi Plus.

Redmi S2 has better dual camera than single camera of Redmi 5 Plus, but has worse display (HD+) vs. FHD+ display of Redmi 5 Plus. So buyer should choose between better display or better dual camera. I guess that many people, especially in China and India, will prefer dual cameras to FHD display, They value camera for good picture higher than high-res display.
