You said that the S9 is only a minor upgrade from the S7 just because the S7 is still usable. Well, that's like saying a modern 2018 car is only a minor upgrade from a 20 years old car just because the 20 years old car can still run. (Again, analogy)
Like I said before, the S9 is a major upgrade from the S7, and it's painfully obvious. Please refer to my previous comments below about all the major features and upgrades that the S9 have that the S7 doesn't have. (Stereo speakers, Dolby atmos, f.15 aperture, slowmo, design, 64/128/256GB storage, display, performance, and many others)

And all you said is a difference but not big enough for buying a new phone.
For a daily usage S7 is a great device and all major remains same.
CPU and GPU are good enough. Ram and battery is same. Disk space is same.
Camera front and back is good enough.
Anyway from a wish site you can get Canon or Nikon camera for a very good price and a 150 eur camera from either brand does much better photos than Samsung best flagship should ever imagine.

Did you even read what you wrote??? It's like you said a modern 2018 car is only a minor upgrade from a 20 years old car JUST BECAUSE the 20 years old car can still run!! Just because your 'people' thinks that the S7 is still good enough, doesn't mean the S9 isn't a major upgrade.

Many of my people having S7 from samsung consider buying S9 is useless because S7 is still good enough.
And most of what you said is not relevant.
Alhough i agree that S9 is a bit better than S7 but the difference is not big enough to think about a change from a well working device.

It's because S7 and S8 is still great. I did buy S9 but still intensively using S7 as entertainment device.

All of these are major improvement from the S7. I mean, the design itself is a major improvement!
And in the plus version, we got 6 GB of RAM and dual camera.
Oh, and about Dolby Atmos, it's listed in the FIRST page of gsmarena's review, and gsmarena even considered it to have one off the most impressive audio quality in a smartphone (upgrade from the S7 which had mediocre audio quality at best)

In my opinion Samsung Galaxy S9 single camera should follow the camera of the Google Pixel 2XL, where it can shot a portrait mode with only 1 camera. This can diferentiate it from S8 other than the camera switcher.

In specs at gsmarena site there is nothing about dolby atmos.
Samsung Dex and Bixby is nothing important most people use its phone for dialing and messaging sometimes brownsing on internet.
I guarantee you that more than 2/3 of phone owners have no idea what these things are good for.
For the rest battery is same ram is same disk space is same just a bit better camera aperature along with improved CPU and GPU and slightly different size but thats it.

Battery is same RAM is same, disk space is same.
Just a difference in dimensions and weight and thats probabbly all.

Nothing wrong with design being a reason to pick a phone (as long as you still care about the other features) but you're making it sound more like you're a tech geek than a smart user. Design should always play a role otherwise you end up with crap like Apple where they've near enough rehashed the same design (up to the iphone 8) for years on end with mostly minor tweaks. In the end if you are spending several hundred or up to a thousand pounds then of course you'd like to have a well designed phone, image isn't everything but I know it's not just that anyway, ergonomics, screen space, screen to body ratio etc. all came from this desire to create stylish and good looking phones and that's fed into overall better phones.
The S8 was great, why wouldn't you want more screen space for around the same size? Isn't that basically what is selling the iphone x to the feature starved Apple crowd or was face ID alone going to sell people on paying £300 more for the convenience of bypassing a 1 second long fingerprint scan? I hope not or my estimation of Apple fans would fall heavily. Still, looks aren't everything but you can't argue they are unimportant when they help contribute to a lot of the trends we're seeing like under screen fingerprint scanners and increased screen real estate due to removing buttons, it's all about getting the most out of the space you got and not cramming it with a million buttons on the back of the phone or notches on the front etc.

The differences lie within the inside, but there are also notable differences outside.
And when 18:9 contents become more popular and widely used, 16:9 would look hilarious to consume 18:9 contents with.
Just compare the iPhone 4's display to the new standards.

Samsung Galaxy S9 took 2 months (60 days) to reach 1 million delivered units mark in Korean phone market. It is quite slow pace compared with Galaxy S8 of last year, which took 37 days to reach the same 1 million mark.
So sales number of Galaxy S9 is quite a big disappointment for Samsung and its fan and investor, about 2/3 of Galaxy S8. It is widely rumored in Korea that Galaxy S9 is experiencing severely poor sales of 30 to 40% sales reduction and resulted in about 7-8% Samsung stock price drop. Samsung recently lowered official sales price in Korea of its flagship Galaxy S9 Plus by $70 USD after just two months. It is very extraordinary measure for Samsung in Korea.
On the contrary, the Apple iPhones are selling briskly and expanding its market share among young and affluent Koreans and is making record sales, despite of its high price, at loss of Samsung Galaxy sales drop.
