Sony will stop making PS Vita game cards

16 May 2018
Digital distribution of games will live on, however. Plus, it has been six years since the Vita launched - that's pretty respectable, even for a console.

Anonymous, 26 May 2018Player can leave front from television when playing the PS4... moreBut that is considered as connected to the PS4. And without the PS4. You can't play PS4 contents. What sony needs is a combined version of PSP and Xperia which everyone would appreciate.

Just build successor to Vita and that's it, no need to make any gaming phone, no one can do it properly anyway

I have a good laugh at people wanting a 120hz screen on 1080p on a handheld.

Consoles can't handle that and PC only with a beefy GTX 1070 on newest games.

Also please no snapdragon, Nvidia has better software tools for making games, Sony should make a 720p handheld with a beefy battery and that's it, on 1080p games would look worse and the battery would drain faster and on 5" 720p would be enough and the system would be more portable than the Switch.

honestly it's been too long, 3ds vs vita battle was sony's fault to begin with, the first generation was bulkier, heavier and most of the games were crap, plus let me not talk about the prices on those memory cards

Gaming phones filled with shallow f2p gachas coupled with touch screen controls that block 2/3 of the screen unless you use external controls.

Just a heads up. Sony will end physical cartridges and memory cards FOR THE WEST. In a recent interview they said they will continue strong with PS VITA in Japan. If you like Japanese games, you have nothing to worry about. Vita is dead only in the west. In Japan they are actively supporting it and Japanese companies are releasing games all the time for Vita. It’s super alive there. I have a JP account and I just don’t have enough time for too much good games releasing all the time. It’s an epic console but in Japan. For west, yes it’s dead unless you import games and cards.

The PS Vita had really strong specs for its time, just like the original PSP.
However, similar to the original PSP it had some design shortcomings (back-touchpad, what were they smoking?) but the biggest issue was a lack of games.

Yes, games from first-party titles AND third-party titles. I agree the marketing aspect about it sucked, but honestly its hard to market/sell something like a console that lacks games. Now the reason for this is basically mismanagement. They needed a clear vision on how to tackle the market, and that is what they lacked.

                    Why do I say this?
It was 2012, and we already saw how the PS3 was performing lacklustre and that the Nintendo Wii was essentially killed by the iPhone. Sony could've used their PlayStation brand and heritage to build a platform in the mobile sphere. What they could've used to differentiate themselves from Apple would've been two "PS Move"-like joycons (large enough to be comfortable, small enough to be pocketable) that attach to a phone. They could've announced a list of approved Competitor OEM Android Phones (eg Samsung, LG, HTC, Xiaomi) approved to download the "PlayStation Mobile" App. This App would synchronise your PSN/PS3 account, messages, game saves, but also act as the agent to play games. Initially it would just be to bring old titles (PS1, PS2, PSP) which would be doable via an Official Sony Soft-Emulation on the Quad Cortex A9/Krait chipsets. And the PSm App would be close-sourced, and the approved Android Phones would be secure from tampering.

On top of this, game developers would now target a new API that Sony puts out, where their games could run on both the Mobile platform and the PS3 console. And even better, after managing the 480p-PS3 level game conversion to the Mobile Ecosystem, they could've retired the platform in support of an improved one, for 720p-PS4 level gaming. They could've done this in 2014/after releasing the PS4, or perhaps in 2016 with better hardware. This would have been a very popular and successful strategy which Sony denied themselves.

The Sony-Ericsson Xperia Play was the wrong decision.

You know, Sony, if you had gone and actually marketed the vita WELL, you wouldn't have pretty much pulled the plug a friggin couple years in for first party support. The only reason people want one anymore is because third party support is alive for it. THEY DID A BETTER JOB FEEDING THE VITA GAMES THAN YOU DID, SONY, THINK ABOUT THAT.

it already support browser, just put SIMcard slot and add Call / SMS functionality in Vita. then we have VitaPhone. I'll buy it in a heart beat.
I don't care how advanced and powerful all these new gaming phone breeds out there. as long as they don't have physical gaming button ... it's just meh

                              With the next specs:
Keep the screen at it's 5.x range (5incher if I'm not mistaken) FHD 120 HZ
SD845, 6 GB of RAM, 1 GB of Graphical RAM.
64 GB of storage with support of Standard SD cards. And 4850 mAh. In a body of 278g heavy.
                              I'd buy that instantly.

Shanti Dope, 17 May 2018A gaming phone is much better controlled with physical cont... moreI don't think there's something better than SD845. I know there's the Tegra X2. Which is powerful offer too.
The Exynos 9810 is more a "practical offer" than gaming option due to the fact it can scale to powerful form an offload a massive task. But GPU is decent at best.

A gaming phone is much better controlled with physical controllers, and for that, Sony has been making their Xperia phones compatible with any PS Dual Shock controller.
So in short, pretty much every single Xperia phone can be considered a 'gaming phone'.
But they need to make one that is really dedicated to the task.
One with bright enough 120Hz screen (1080p is fine), SD845 or more powerful than that, at least 6GB RAM, 128GB storage (because heavy games are storage hungry), and to top it off, also do add Sony's PlayStation exclusives, which will be a huge advantage over their competitor gaming smartphone OEMs.

Sony could very well make a gaming phone that would really give Nintendo a run for it's money. A snapdragon 845 powered handheld would really be incredibly coupled with a 4000 mAh battery and a OLED display.
