Covfefe4ever, 17 May 2018"A YouTube Music Premium account will cost you $9.99 each m... moreThey offer about $2.50 monthly here in the Philippines

mojojojo, 17 May 2018youtube (or spotify and apple music in other case) will pay... moreYes, but they pay significantly more for each premium scrobble. Free accounts scrobbling puts less money in the artist's pocket.

install youtube vanced and problem solved. no ads, and there is background playback. no root needed, and of course free!

Shanti Dope, 17 May 2018Nope. They are totally different apps. As far as I can see... moreHow would that be any different than simply playing music on youtube ?
        Without background playback is useless.
BTW, probably shouldn't say this, but both Spotify and YouTube allow you to listen to what song you want in the background for free. They just need a little convincing :))

I still download all my music from Soulseek and keep it on my SD card. Don't think I've ever even used spotify

if the service will allow background playing. then sure. ^^ youtube has a MUCH crazier amount of songs available. (If I'm not mistaken, and basing on the VEVO service, we're talking about a staggering 286m songs. that's about twice more than DEEZER+SPOTIFY+AppleMusic together)

PandaGrylls, 17 May 2018I hope they don't, though. Someone needs to pay the artists... moreyoutube (or spotify and apple music in other case) will pay the artist doesn't matter if you listening on free account or paid account.

                WTF spotify in Finland 9.99€

No background playback? A "music" app that forces you to stare at the album art? That's video streaming not music, and free versions of these apps are pretty useless on mobile anyway.

"A YouTube Music Premium account will cost you $9.99 each month removing the ads and restrictions but it's still double what Spotify charges so we'll see what other perks Google plans to throw in justify the difference." Double...? Are they high? Spotify Premium costs the same 9.99 $!

Shanti Dope, 17 May 2018Nope. They are totally different apps. As far as I can see... moreI hope they don't, though. Someone needs to pay the artists and if everyone can listen to their music without using a premium subscription, this wouldn't be fair. So stand by Spotify on that. And besides, $5-10 isn't all that much compared to what you get in return - unlimited access to a huge music library.

Shanti Dope, 17 May 2018Nope. They are totally different apps. As far as I can see... moreI wish Google will fix this huge issue that still occurs on my most devices: Continues to play music even if I Stop the app and even Force Stop the app itself!

Geric.770, 17 May 2018So Google Play Music will be replaced by this streaming mus... moreNope. They are totally different apps.
As far as I can see, Play Music is more of an offline music player than an online music player.
This app will compete with the likes of Spotify, and I hope that in unpaid version, we would at least get the ability to play the song that we actually want to listen to, instead of giving us no right to choose the specific song that we want to hear like Spotify does.
I have no hopes, just so I will be impressed when it's actually true, and not feel bad when it's true.

Shanti Dope, 17 May 2018SONGily is better. So Google Play Music will be replaced by this streaming music by YouTube?

                              SONGily is better.
