If there are many platforms, we're bound to end up with many useful apps not being available for the platform you chose. Also, it would put app developers in front of a dilemma: either they spend more money and time developing and supporting versions for all the systems, or (more likely for small developers) they only make it for a couple of more popular ones.

Actually an article like that makes me lament the status quo of only two platforms for smartphones. I yearn having multiple platforms and diversity, and many alternative choices. imagine if Meego (Nokia), BB10 (Blackberry) and Windows Phone (Microsoft) still exist. As it is, this cold war between only two platforms for our choices is getting rather plain boring and COLD. Just do an Apple and keep the damn thing stable.

Didn't see the poll before this article, but having been on the beta since about the I/O release, I must say, keep the buttons on the navbar (easier and faster than gestures) and a status bar option that does NOT cater to ugly notches (have a Pixel 2 XL, put the clock back on the right where the rest of the static icons are) and expand notifications icons back to seven.
Other than that, it's an improvement.

gestures are not default on android p, it is a switch in settings.

Good day everybody. Yes it is good. At any rate, I did not participate in this survey, because I have not had any hands on time with Android 9.0 yet. Hopefully, Android P will force feed almost all or all video games to function full screen on Galaxy S9 and S8 models.
