I am no mediatek fangirl. but that company has an INSANE potencial to be a leader. they are just lazy. they can EASILY trump the SD845 in terms of raw CPU power if they want. (but graphically? meh. equal at best to exynos7885)
I believe that the Helio X40 will bump up the core count to 12. (tri clusters of 4 cores, afaik. A75, A55, and A35.)

Hopefully quad-cores will be left behind even in the sub $100 segment. Combined with 5000mAh batteries, things could get interesting.

The P60 falls in between the 660 and 636. The X30 is close to an 835 with weaker graphics.

So to sum up, the P22 isn't really a midrange chipset. With A53 octa and PowerVR GE8320 GPU (comments said that it'll be slightly weaker than mere dual-core Mali-G71) it falls when compared to competitor midrange chipset such as SD636 or even the good old SD625 (P22 wins on the 12nm process, though). It'll best described as lower-midrange chipset than anything, and as a cheap alternative to the similar-spec'd Snapdragon variant

Cam... moreExcellent question. I'll explain:
1. Camera MP. (Megapixel) Count is decided by the SIZE OF THE SENSOR implemented. It is not relevant to the CPU itself as it's a hardware thing. HOWEVER, The CPU is responsible to launching the camera app, and changing the settings.
For example, Let's take the Sony XZP, it has a 19 MP camera, but you know in the settings you can set it to be lower, like 16, 12, 13, 9, etc. By choosing one of these settings the CPU turns off the irrelevant pixels so you can use the sensor in the desired MP.
Summimg up: The TOTAL megapixel is not relevant to CPU. The settings are.
2. Bokeh: this one is split into TWO types of Bokeh:
Traditional Bokeh, And Fake Bokeh.
In case of a traditional bokeh, the CPU makes the cameras (in case of Dual and Triple camera) to work together, just like eyes. It focuses on the target in one camera (usually the main), and the other camera(s) are used for blurring the rest of the area.
A fake Bokeh uses just focus, it focuses on the target, naturally causing the BG to be blurry.
3. Screen Resolution: this is relevant to a microcontroller that sits NEAR the CPU, and it's called a DPU: Display Processing Unit. it gets the command that the display should emit X and Y amount of pixels in thr rows and columns respectively. The DPU gets commands from a piece INSIDE the CPU that is called Control Unit. If the device has an interchangable resolution (for example: the galaxy S9), Setting the resolution higher or lower will respectively light up or turn off pixels, and the DPU will show the desired one.
Rule: the DPU has a limit resolution, you can't show displays that are higher than the limit.
And lastly: Aspect Ratio, relevant to the DPU as well.
But generally contains a little math as well. Let's take a random image from google, have you noticed that some images are more squarish and others are rectangular? And they have these weird numbers like 720x1280?
If you'll divide the BIGGER from the Smaller, you will see the aspect ratio. TYPICALLY by the form of 1.x
Now you're probably wondering, that's awesome and all, but how do we get to 16:9 ratios and so on?
These forms are the SMALLEST amount of pixels that keep the image in the same shape.
Let's conclude and clarify some stuff:
I spoke from the software's PoV. So by the software's PoV EVERYTHING is relevant to the "CPU".
If you mean by hardware: just the camera isn't relevant directly. Everything else is!

P22's screen is limited to 1600x720, when S450 is ok for fullHD
P22 offers AI features and bluetooth 5.0 (bluetooth is strangely better than P60), 450 doesn't and is limited to bluetooth 4.1
GPU will be Powervr GE8320. Probably a little weaker than G71mp2 (GE serie)...but in hd, it will be ok.

Should be a good performer in terms of battery life, given the process node and use of A53 cores. GPU is not mentioned though.
Good enough for 100-15- USD phones. WIll be usable with 3 GB of RAM and more. Snapdragon 450 is the main competitor for this and I think Mediatek will be able to undercut QC on pricing.
The older P23 is much faster in CPU performance with its insanely high clockspeed for the A53 cores.
