Nokia is making the wrong decision to WP7. Look at their dwindling market share! They should continue with Symbian but to refine the process of deploying the updates. For one they have too many variants and models to test and check...Cut down on the variants.

My friend could choose every phone in Nokia N8 price section, but he bought N8 because he liked it as a phone and media device and yes - the camera.

He chose it because it is Nokia, a true European brand with good name and good quality phones. He also had SE and Samsung phones before and he said that he will never buy again those piece of plastic shit.

He have tried Android and his conclusion was: 'I will never touch that shit again.' That's what he said.

He's more than happy with his N8. Symbian - it's simply, easy to understand and do not need masive power to run it.

The truth is, there are more than 2 major players, and no one brand, OS, manufacturer has complete dominance in any particular sector. So the truth? The customer wins! :)

Hmm, based on http://gs.statcounter.com (I tent to trust it) figures are completely different. Symbian holds less then 10%, iOS is top (over 40%) and Android is second over 26%.

                          Where is the truth?

Just few comments about the situation (as far as I see it) in Italy.
                              - Most Nokia smartphones were sold as high level dumbphones (ie not used with mail/maps/social networks) and possibly with high rebates (I got my 5800 at 160 Euros and simply as a phone it still works great)
                              - The carriers are pushing a lot Android and iOS in order to get people to subscribe data plans (5-10 Euros/month times 60 millions of phones is a big pile of money)
                              - New buyers and people who upgrade do not even consider anything but Android or iOS. 5 out of 6 colleagues of mine dropped Nokia for Android (and are happy with it).
                              Just few opinions..

Don't be biased about Nokia and Symbian. Most of us including me started from Symbian. Symbian WAS good. Nokia WAS good. But these days, sorry if you're getting heartache or what, Android and iOS are THE only important smartphone OSes.We can switch to Nokia IF they deliver better smartphones.

dany, 14 Sep 2011you cannot make a statistic based on data from one single d... moreYes, agreed. There are localized variations and pricing plays a big part in persuading customers to purchase something you need to sell.

For this reason, statistics are flawed in that products can eventually be sold for a small profit or even a loss to promote and get more visibility on the street. Everybody has a price, so even loyalties can be overridden.

Not everyone can afford the best or most up to date devices. Nokia still has a 'familiar' generation of users who will just end up with Symbian on a newer handset and have little knowledge or care for other OS's.

in my country symbian rules in domestic area (followed pretty close by android) while rim rules in business area.

On a long run, I believe nokia will remain on top (with their new belle on the low-mid area and meego in high area)

I think your brain's been put "on hold". Nokia will only get stronger next year with Windows Phone, Symbian Belle-Cindy, S40-2, and Meego Harmattan.
