OnePlus 6 removed the Always On Display feature just before launch

28 May 2018
It used up too much battery for OnePlus' liking. The feature was present in pre-launch software but was promptly removed.

I don't care about battery life, I want muh Always On Display. I don't care about 50h Endurance Rating as long as I have that feature.

AKA "We needed something to justify the 6T that releases in just a few months"

Ever Used AOD It's Far From being a gimmick!

So, they add a notch, like, "Get used to it", but they remove the Always on display, like, they're concerned about the battery. Stunning.

SO no proper testing of device ? OPO is crap to me same old shit in new costly panels thats it

As long as the phone have multi color notification light, AOD is just a gimmick.

They could have just left it off by default.

OnePlus are turning into proper fascists. Let the people choose if they want always on display from the settings. Don't make the decision for them

OP should add animojis to become real deal lol.

My 3years old phone got always on and wireless charging. Its nothing awesome, but still feature I expect flagship to have now.

This kind of attitude is so infuriating. It's just a repeat of what happened earlier. My 3T had proximity wake. It was really useful for me cos have my phone is usually lying on a table or on it's stand or even in my pocket and all it needed was a wave of the hand(or remove from pocket)to see the time or notifications. Then in an update Lift up display arrived but instead of adding it as another option they removed proximity wake completely! Lift up display is nowhere near as useful as proximity wake since I have to lift the phone up each time to see what's on the screen and even that needs be at an angle for it to work. One Plus is just trying to piss of their users in every way possible.

                            This article is a lie.

OPPO/Vivo/OnePlus removed the Always On Display for another reason. And its that the software was rushed and wasn't ready. I mean my LG G6 has a much higher resolution screen AND it has a much less efficient LCD screen. Yet, the G6 has no issue with battery drain because of that feature.

Just wait, there will be plenty of Custom Roms out for the OnePlus 6 soon, and they will polish the software further, squash some bugs, introduce new features, etc etc. Always On Display will come to it soon, and you can be absolutely sure its not going to affect battery drain negatively. What does affect battery life negatively is Unoptimised Kernel/OS and Wasteful/Improper Apps.

I could mistaken but doesn't AoD rely on certain hardware and sensors? The Galaxy S6 didn't get it because something was missing in hardware (don't remember what exactly).
