Amazon blamed of poor working conditions in Foxconn-owned factory

11 June 2018
Surpassed overtime hours, poor wages, verbal abuse, not enough hours of safety training.

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2018true... the factory should pay the worker $1500/month. bu... moreMan to be exaxct at Shen Zen china largest Foxconn factory in the world where apple phones are made people earn 0,20-0,25 eurocents a day and shift managers get from 0,70 to 1 euro a day. And people here works 16-20 hours a day 7 days a weekn with a 10 minutes break time for lunch.
So if we raise their salary from 0,20 to 1500 dollars one phone made by apple will cost several millions because in this factory a several millions of people working because they have no other choice.
In case of UK for example if you are unemployed country pay all your exopenses your bills rent etc. and you get like 120-150 pounds a week for food drinks clothes and anything else you like.
In case of China if you dont work you get nothing not even a penny, This country wont supports you this way.

          Over 100 hours overtime.
That means every week they are doing +23 hours overtime. Full-time hours is already 38 hours per week. That means the total is 61 hours per week. So it means the workers are not working 7.6 hours for 5 days each week. Instead they are working 10.2 hours for 6 days each week.

Just imagine working Monday-to-Saturday, working from 8am-to-7.00pm, just working working working. All that for around 780 Yuan (or US$121.81) per week, or roughly 130 Yuan (or roughly US$20.30) each day, or each month is 3,380 Yuan (US$527.86). Although Foxconn now provides free meals and accomodation (paid by Apple), so expenditure is non-existent for most workers.

So it seems quite low, and the hours exhausting... so why do the workers put up with it?
Its because in the context of work in China, Foxconn really is good because they pay much much higher than the standard pay, the facility is much much better, and there are support mechanisms. The average Chinese worker is jealous of those Foxconn workers. Whilst the Official Average Pay is close to 6,000 Yuan... its disproportionately skewed by the very wealthy people at the top. In reality, its actually close to around 2,000 Yuan and that's before expenses.

However, I think Apple can build iPhones cheaper if they did it in the USA... it will mean that most of the manufacturing would be automated and done by robots. That means there will be a job loss of around 500,000 - 1,200,000 people. There really is a "human cost" associated with these, and its scary to realise people need their jobs moreso than the jobs need the people.

This is just misleading. Amazon knew that things weren't right and they had already asked Foxconn to fix them. Now an independent report confirms Amazon's findings and apparently Foxconn hasn't taken enough/any action yet. To blame this completely on Amazon feels simply wrong.

I keep on reading that these companies are to blame but I thing we forget an important factor in this discussion...us, we, consumers. We want it cheep, we want it all and we want it yesterday. Do you really think that companies are willing to sacrifice benefits so that we, spoiled brats, can have for almost free? There is of course also the other end of the spectrum where some companies, kuch Apple kuch, sells expensive goods while the labour doesn't earn enough to live. Again, we are to blame as we just want all this crap and if possible for almost free.

Mostly, it's happening in the east! I'm wodering why...

I am no longer a fan of Amazon, and NOT because Donald Trump thinks that Amazon ought to be paying more dividends to the U.S. Post Office. I received an email not long ago from Amazon stating that if I download and log in once to their Amazon Shopping app that I would receive a free 10 Amazon gift certificate. After I did so, I never received said
gift certificate. I inquired. I also forwarded them their email. They claimed that it was spam. I went and found out where they are headquartered, and how to take them to small claims court. I was just thinking developing a class action law suit before this story broke. Remember everyone: nothing ventured, nothing gained. I bet our pals at One Plus's marketing department would agree.

but, would you pay $2500 for the brand new iPhone?

or maybe still pay $1500 for brand new iphone, but apple only have 20% profit

I'm always surprised to learn/read that American corporate really want to 'presure' chinese factory so much. asking very low price, but EXPECTING the factory give good condition to worker.

IF amazon, apple or any other american brand really care about the worker, they should PAY MORE for the device. they should tell the factory, that they're willing to pay more. otherwise, shut up.
