Anonymous, 22 Jun 2018It might be that the countries we live in contribute to our... moreNot really. It has more to do with being given the right to choose how to spend your hard earned cash - whether investing in a high internal storage-only phone that lasts only as long as the phone itself, or investing in a lower internal storage phone with sd card expansion and using the savings you get for a 200GB-400GB sd card with the sd card lasting longer than the phone itself and which can be transferred to other phones and even other portable devices should the phone be upgraded or die. Therefore, an sd card investment in storage is never put to waste. A phone with sd card storage will never result to any user being forced to upgrade the phone just because storage is full or a user being forced to pay for cloud services. Many phone manufacturers cripple their phones intentionally, by removing external storage, so you would opt for more expensive higher storage options or so that you will pay for cloud services. Apple is the pioneer of such predatory scheme, giving users ZERO choice and forcing them to use their paid cloud services or to buy more expensive higher storage options while stiffling competition from independent sd card manufacturers. That's planned obsolescence and for lack of better word, GREED.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2018Look, if you are happy with a flagship phone without sd car... moreIt might be that the countries we live in contribute to our preferences?

I've lived in both Eastern and Western Europe, and I've had no issues with mobile data, nor with wifi networks availability or internet speeds. I had unlimited 3G/4G data plan for about 1% of a medium salary in one country, and I now have an 18GB 4G plan for about 2% of a medium salary in my current country. And wherever I went in Europe, I could find a good working wifi connection in coffee shops, bus stops, public places, etc. so I never needed something and could not get it due to lack of internet availability.

A 10 year warranty doesn't mean a device will work for 10 years; that's just a marketing strategy.

Anyway, you failed to demonstrate why an SD card is needed/useful in today's age of technology. You just use it because it's your personal preference and that's the way you are used to do things. And you are not open to change and upgrades.

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2018I've exclusively used phones with SD cards since 2005 until... moreThe only things I backup online are my contacts. Photos, videos, personal files, nope. I don't want to waste time and data uploading them and downloading them and paying for the service just to expose my sensitive personal data to seasoned, highly sophisticated international hackers. I backup my phone's sd card contents on my desktop regularly through usb. It's safer there as my PC is rarely online. What's more, no data is wasted uploading to the cloud and it's a lot faster. So no problem if sd card gets corrupted. It's got a backup on my desktop and/or external hard drives and the sd card has 10 year warranty. You can't say the same for an expensive, huge, phone internal storage which has no warranty. No problem with sd card speed too because I don't move apps to sd card or launch apps from sd card. Bottom line, huge internal storage is only as good as the life of the phone. Way much better to invest in a moderate internal storage phone (64GB) but with sd card slot than waste money on a high internal storage phone (256GB/512GB) that doesn't have any sd card slot. Besides, sd card storage is way so much cheaper too.

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2018I've explained everything to you. You refuse to ACCEPT, ACK... moreI've exclusively used phones with SD cards since 2005 until March 2016. Stopped using them because they do not provide any convenience and the read/write speeds are so slow that it takes ages to do any transfers. Not to mention they are not secure at all. If you encrypt them, then they'll get even slower.
It seems to me that you never tried to do constant, automatic back-ups when you connect your phone to a wifi network or when you connect it to your laptop/PC, if you do that. I haven't connected my phone to a laptop for anything else than charging, for years - there's no need for that anymore.

What happens if you lose your phone or the data on your sd card gets corrupted? If you just have automatic back-ups in place, your device won't matter anymore. You can always get a new one and just restore a back up from the cloud or from your external hdd at home.

So as I said, some people clearly do not understand technology and can't comprehend the benefits of this over that and so on. They just do the same thing they've learned once in the past, and they will do it over and over again, refusing to acknowledge that the world around them evolves constantly. That's why most of us stopped using tons of technology that was the bog-standard a few years ago, but some people still cling on to audio jacks, sd cards, LED notifications, physical keyboards, etc. while the rest of us understood the advantages of new tech and features.

You refuse to ACCEPT, ACKNOWLEDGE, or ADMIT that external storage (sd card) is a very useful and needed feature for majority of phone users especially since many users do not have unlimited data, are not online all the time or not always in areas with good data speeds, do not like to waste and risk data hacking from cloud backups, etc. These sd card users prefer not to pay monthly or annual fees for cloud storage that wastes data, and would rather invest in a low cost but long lasting 10 year warranty sd cards. ANYBODY but you can clearly see that sd card expansion is a welcome feature that is not as short-lived, expensive and wasteful as a crippled sd card-less flagship phone that dies with its huge storage or gets replaced in a year or two. Many users see a 64GB internal storage phone with huge sd card expansion a vastly wiser investment than wasting money on a crippled sd card-less phone that has 256GB - 512GB NON TRANSFERABLE internal storage that dies or gets reolaced with the phone in a year or two. An investment in a 200-400GB sd card and a 64GB phone with sd expansion is WAY, WAY better as they are transferrable and have 10 year warranties. As I see it, you are really just ENVIOUS your phone is crippled without an sd card storage and you made a realization its huge internal storage is going to last you only 2 yearsnor so as your phone dies or gets replaced. What a stupid waste of money. So there. Admit you're ENVIOUS because your crippled phone doesn't have an sd card and that's why you're SOUR GRAPING telling users here here's no need for sd cards when internal storage in phones is getting bigger.

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2018How naive of you. Please read my previous posts. I've alrea... moreHow about having backups of your data? Either offline (your laptop/PC, external HDD, etc.) or online, using some cloud service? Or even better, both!! Just save everything on your laptop/PC/external HDD and set it so it automatically back up to the cloud as well.

We live in the age of online technology, yet some people still choose to be stuck in the offline era, where they store things on personal plastic and silicon devices. Sheesh!

For that one time your phone dies or you upgrade, as in once a year, once every two years, or maybe even often, you choose to hoard data with you everywhere you go, just for those very rare instances. Now that's some powerful logic there!

Let's face it, people who do this kind of stuff just have no idea on how to make use of the technology and services they have at hand.

Mr , 19 Jun 2018And no, phones without card slot not loosing costumers and ... moreOn this one, you're wrong. What fills up a phone's internal storage fast are ever increasing media files - photos, videos, music and personal files, not programs or apps. It's the same media files (photos and videos) that fill up a camcorder's or a digital camera's storage. And users HATE it when their priced media files - that is, their family/kids photos and videos and tgeir Hollywood movie and music collection, get damges/lost forever together with their short lived flagship phones. The would have been able to save some of their personal files had the phone had removable storage.

Mr , 19 Jun 2018How many manufactures had sd card slot 5 years ago and how ... moreYou're correct: manufacturers like Apple, Oneplus, Pixel, etc. can get more profit from overpriced higher storage options of their crippled, sd card-less phones. Unless phones last longer than sd cards, and unless dedicated digital cameras and camcorders do away with sd card storage, the sd card is here to stay. It will keep on getting cheaper, faster, and phones without them will lose customers as Samsung has learned when they removed the sd card slot from the S6. Apple is a different story. It has monopoly of its Appstore and ios operating system. It's Apple's way or tge highway so to speak. As for android manufacturers? There's plenty of options unless all android manufacturers connive with Google to remove the sd card slot for all phones in existence (next to impossible). In short, it won't happen, at least not until such time phones become so cheap and annually disposable or until higher phone internal storage options can match the equivalent storage costs of an sd card.

Cameras are different storry, it's different device, where you can't do anything with pictures, not to put on social media or send to friend, and also pictures are larger so it's harder to move them to PC or other device. There's no way cameras can be without card slot.

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2018How many movies do you even need to carry around with you? ... moreHow naive of you. Please read my previous posts. I've already answered your wrong assumptions about sd card uses and their users. And NO you are wrong to assume that the slow speeds of sd cards is a hindrance to media playback. SD card users don't buy sd cards because they want to move apps to sd card. The sd card is used like an external flash drive or an external portable hard drive to store media files and other personal files. So I repeat again: NO, you cannot dictate how users use their sd card storage especially since they have it plenty and cheap and with 10 year warranty, not like your internal phone storage that dies with the phone in 2 years or so, making any phone investment for large internal storage capacities, a wasteful option with no assurance of benefit in the long term unless your phone is still alive or you won't be upgrading for a long time. A 64GB phone with sd card slot is a wiser investment than any crippled overpriced phone with 256gb or higher internal storage but without any sd card slot. With an sd card, you can transfer it to another phone should your phone die. That includes any data you have on your sd card. Now you know!

Sorry, but what you are saying makes no sense, except that you are hoarding data along with you everywhere. Just do a quick count (for yourself) and see how much stuff you are carrying around with you, and how often you need it/actually use it. Even if you download your movies for offline use (legally, of course) through Netflix or Amazon, you get the option to select the quality you want. And even if you watch them on big screens, you won't need more than 1080p quality anyway. So 10 movies would probably take up about 50 GB of your storage space. Therefore, a 128 GB internal storage phone will be more than adequate for your needs. And considering there are 256 GB and 512 GB options out there, SD cards are not needed anymore. They are slower than phone storage, and if you encrypt them, they get even slower and will make your phone sluggish. That's why, for example, iPhones/iPads do not use SD cards - because it would bottleneck their performance.

                                For hardware alone, it's hot!
But if it's my money, then I would step back and say NO!!! Loudly.

It's skin is the WORST implementation of Android aesthetically, that I wouldn't even bother to dive deeper into the OS to find any useful features

On the contrary, phones without sd card slot will lose popularity and lose customers. It used to be that camcorders only came with internal flash/internal HDD storage. Now, many models come without internal storage anymore. Digital cameras rely solely on sd card storage. Based on these two electronic devices which phones have partly replaced, I don't think sd crds and sd card slots will go away soon.

Huge sd card storages have been such a convenience for me and others. No need to bring laptop and/or usb, portable external hard drives, etc., since all my personal and work files that I need to have with me are in my phone's sd storage, every single day, anytime, anywhere, data or no data. And it's not about work only. I also have my movie collection and other media files in my huge sd storage in my phone! No cloud storage can beat that! And sd cards have 10 year warranties! Your phone with huge storage? You are lucky if you can still make use of stored files in your phone's internal storage 2 years from now. Besides, most phones only have 1 year warranties! Accept the criticism for what it's worth and thank other users here for teaching you why an sd card slot is essential for most users.
