Galaxy S10 to ditch the iris scanner for an in-display fingerprint and facial recognition

22 June 2018
Samsung is working on a 3D facial recognition to substitute the iris scanner. An advanced in-display fingerprint also rumored.

Nobody used it. So they are ditching it and copying Apple

That's unfortunate. The IRIS scanner on my Note 8 works seamlessly and securely, even with a belaclava on and with gloves on during the cold winter season here.

Hopefully this facial recognition is at least up to par for the above situation. Otherwise, it's dumb downgrade. Gonna send feedback to Samsung about it...

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2018I think Google and phone manufacturers are not seriously pu... moreMan i agree.
At least Xiaomi releases its MUI for even the oldest phones budget or midrangers high end etc.
Where Samsung for example stopped suporting S6 series few months ago at all and thats a flagship phone with flagship specs.
But the truth is in past everything has been made so precise that the product could last more than just few years. For example my mom sport shoes were worn a lot but even after 30 years they are still in good condition.
Another example Old Nokia 3310 apart from battery replacement many of my customers still use this phone and is 100% working.
But this new era every brand have own way to force its customers to switch for new device every few years.
Like apple when affair of slowing older devices via updates has been revealed and Samsung did same.

i hate face unlock feature. it's insecure. Fingerprint is atleast better than that. Maybe companies should bring out a blood/DNA recognition feature too to unlock devices.

AnonD-731363, 23 Jun 2018Man thats a lie project treble means as soon as the new upd... moreI think Google and phone manufacturers are not seriously pursuing it. Project treble is a half baked effort to escape scrutiny from regulatory bodies just so they can escape liability from not doing any effort to address the lack of timely software support and security updates for Android phones. If Google and other manufacturers were truly serious, or if they were regulated, the problem of software support and security updates would have been addressed a long time ago and we wouldn't be forced to change phones just because software and security support has ended. Really, I don't see any reason why these tech companies shouldn't be regulated. They are getting rich at consumers expense and are essentially controlling our lives and perception. I mean, even Google itself doesn't even guarantee software updates beyond two years for its own Pixel phones, what more of other smartphone companies. These tech companies are taking the bulk of the profits leaving other businesses with scraps. They are becoming too powerful.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2018You would think they at least push out security updates in ... moreThat's the sad truth really. By crippling phones, that is, removing anti-obsolescence features (removable battery, sd card slot, etc.) and by stopping software support too early, phone manufacturers are crippling phones to force people to buy new phones every year or two. And no, there's no more huge improvements really that is worth upgrading to, every year or two as tech developments have plateaud. Phone manufacturers would like users to believe you must replace phones every year or two because of significant new technology. Really? And worse, phone manufacturers are now pushing for $1000, $2000 to almost $3000 flagship phones that will need to be replaced every year or two! Is any smartphone that will be replaced every year or two really worth that much? What is it made of? Gold and Platinum? I can't imagine buying a flagship $1,000 - $2,000 Windows laptop with fixed, non removable, non-upgradeable hard drive storage and one with Windows software support of two years only, maximum, and worse, with non-user removable sealed battery. Can anybody imagine why a smartphone can do that? Why are law enforcement agencies allowing this trend in flagship phones? It's planned obsolescence and GREED to say the least. These phone manufacturers and tech companies SERIOUSLY need to be REGULATED!

Samsung flagships are such a bad value. They ditch updates (and thus the phones) after 2 years. Crazy to pay 1000 dollars for something that it becomes obsolete in 2 years.

                                      Same like apple.
                                      People are Apple Addicted.
I cabn guarantee you if Xiaomi would put IOS into their Smartphones and sells for up to 500 dolalrs / 400 euros noone will buy apple anymore.

Mr Magma, 22 Jun 2018From 990 to 1500 lol hahaha well buy a Xiaomi then Man every chinese brand is better at least the price respectively.
In case of Xiaomi they are top. Selling well working phones for affordable price and outstanding specs.
Same genuinely same phone like S10 can Xiaomi make for 40% lowered price with Xiaomi sticker on it.
But in case of Samsung the genuinely same phone like is Mi8 Explorer would cost much over 900 euros. Just because of Samsung sticker on it.
