By just comparing benchmarks one can clearly see how behind Samsung is. The s9 has the a smaller single core bench compared to the iPhone 6s. 2300 for s9 vs 2500 fir iPhone 6s. The latter is a three years old device. Now it makes sense why Samsung goes down. Underperforming but as expensive as new iPhones.

Flagship phones in themselves last say the years before a mid range phone comes along with similar and lesser specs

5G is just around the corner so it seem a not so smart a move to buy a 4G when with 5G will have tweaked specs
Apple has nothing to do with it IMO,
I bet the vast majority do not check the specs
