12 July 2018
We were expecting yellow and blue color versions for the phone based on prior leaks, but this is intriguing.

There is no native support for pressure sensitive pens in Android. Yet, Samsung has done it for something like seven years. That is the reason most manufacturers choose Android. It's part of the biggest mobile ecosystem but it still allows you to use hardware no one else uses.

The higher resolution is obvious for anyone who's actually used a VR headset. Even 4k isn't anywhere near an optimal resolution for VR. General apps doesn't suffer massive performance drop with a higher resolution as long as the GPU is optimised for the resolution. There's no problem running 4k for desktop usage on a PC with an Intel integrated GPU, as long as you don't expect gaming.

And you're right. It's higher specs and features that separate the Droid. And marketing. And Samsung has that. Though that gap is not quite the same as it used to be and prices are still on the rise. Though it's not as over priced as the Sony xzp2 or whichever. Or the pixel 2xl.and didn't skimp on ram and cameras like LG did.

This is what happens when you lock yourself in an borrowed OS (Android) that thousands others use. It's hard to differentiate. Once, Samsung was the only one in Android world who knew how to make smartphones but now everybody knows. However good the design is, if the OS is the same like thousand other you have nothing better to offer than the others. Apple can still have the same design and sell because the iPhone is not just the hardware, it's also the OS, the ecosystem, an iPhone has many ways to differentiate from the others.

Why? Because you need computing power to run it. Sure, your videos might look better, smartphones are capable of 4K playback, no problem. But what about other applications? Doubling the amount of pixels without doubling your processing power will equal even worse experience than it is now. That's why PC VR is the way to go, you can have as much power there as you can buy. Then go ahead and put even 8K display in there.

It's a thing that works decently well on mobile as the phone has a lot of the used sensors built in. Make a HMD good enough, like the Gear VR and you actually have a pretty decent VR headset. So, making the phone's resolution as high as possible isn't a question of "jack of all trades", it's a question of making the phone better at what it's used for by many.

So many ways of placing cameras, fingerprint scanner and so many different materials could be used to make a phone different from the others. And what do we get? Anonymous, 13 Jul 2018Tacky as usual from SamesungWhat is tacky about this phone??? Are you referring to the blue / gold color combo?
Kudos to Samsung for picking a color that is not used often. Maybe you would like it if they chose Red and were slammed for copying apple, oppo or hauwei because they obviously trademarked the color red.

It's got the beautiful infinity display (still better than every other phone out there), the barely there bezels are top of it's class aesthetically.

It's amazing how many people can't get over the fact that Samsung took a chance and nailed a home run with the infinity display (which, again is the best looking display out there), followed by LG I guess with some sort of curved edges.

Amazing job Samsung, looking forward to the Note 9 and S10!

You've got a great looking blue phone (and not a gross light / pastel blue either) in your hand. People are wondering what is that device he's got. Then you pull out the gold(ish) colored S Pen.... people stand in awe at how awesome this person is.
                              I LOVE IT.

Re bottom hole alignment etc, to be honest, the Note is a functional productivity device - and people don't tend to see the base, it's normally facing down. I do hope the 9 has stereo speakers. Anyone know if that is rumored?
